Frankly, I can see where SE is going with the black list thing,. I've seen peolpe accidentally BL the wrong person and they didn't know about it, especially if the chat is constantly moving and you misclicked the wrong name.

Definitely think that they need to crack down on this big time. One big thing that we have from the start that XI didn't have is a lot more bound gear. Gil selling destroyed the economy in XI. People selling items for many millions of Gil when there was no way to make that kind of money in a reasonable amount of time playing the game.

The economy in this game is already shot before it even had a chance to start. There is no alternative gil incoming from outside sources that doesn't require a ridiculous grind. Which means that the only gil we get is from story/quests/leves/fates. After hitting 50, repairs on decent gear can get up to 3.5k a pop. This isn't even including the money needed to buy anything from anyone on the server, even fellow free company people.

Right click a name in chat to "ignore" or "to report spam" is a pretty standard MMO feature. While it may seem harsh to the developers I for one feel no remorse what so ever when I block or report someone. To not have an easy way to block someone is an open invite to spammers to peddle their trade.

Well, it was proposed that there should be a filter that blocks tell with website names, this wouldn't work because the use "WVVW" and ".c0m". Besides that, it'd be too strict and interrupt people simply sending tells, such as "Look! I finished my relic [insert link here]." and the like.

My suggestion is an automated (and very carefully tested) system that would kick a player from the server after sending the same /tell to...say...15? 20 people? You can find an appropriate number easily enough.

The benefits to this would be that the RMT would eventually catch on, and have to relog, depending on post-update server stability, getting back on may or may not be a problem.

I think they are just being cautious for the right reasons. Accidentally ignoring someone is one thing, accidentally reporting someone's account for investigation is another.

If you don't wanna add a right click blacklist option at least add a /blist "Name Name" command. One is, clearly, very sure with that kind of thing.

A chat command already exists. It's "/blist add "Gil Spammer".

I had some sending me tells today for the first time. I'd report them, but SE made it such a pain to do so. Can't be bothered.

And that chat command actually does have a confirmation box that appears when you press ENTER. I guess Square-Enix is afraid that the user will also accidentally click on "Yes" or "OK".

I liked how FFXI had an option in chat filters for "filter shouts deemed to be spam" and "filter tells deemed to be spam". Now FFXIV devs just need to implement a similar heuristics filter and enable an option for it in the client. The filter in FFXI wasn't perfect by any means, but it filtered most of the spam.
