Also... For those that think this is a bad launch... take a look at this

and for those that don't want to click on it... in short it says that this game is breaking records with more than 187,000 concurrent connections, expected to hit 200,000. Which means that 200,000 people between 50 servers ~ 4,000 people per server at peak (minimum) since there are login restrictions to limit people.

I take it you didn't play the launch of GW2 then? They also stopped selling copies of the game. I know they stopped selling digital copies, not so sure about physical copies though.

30 DAYS FREE SUBSCRIPTION. <---- Do you know why they do this? Well, error 1017 is your answer.
It's not a 30 day free subscription. You purchase 30 days of play time with the purchase of the game. I paid to play...not to wait to play.

Guild Wars 2 had to suspend digital orders just like SE because of too many people trying to connect. They were having server stability issues, major lag in the game, disconnects, registration issues, had to suspend character creation on various servers, etc. This is really nothing new and still seems to be the norm for every MMO release.
Were we playing the same game because I was at GW2 at launch and other than a couple of short maintenance down times, I found the launch to be good. I had no lag or log in issues or game breaking errors. In fact, I think the only bugs I encountered had to do with the cash shop and auction house.

I was able to make multiple characters through out the launch as were all my friends and guildmates that joined me. They utilized overflow servers where you could play while waiting for space on your server. I never had a single instance where I could not log on and play or a single instance where my toon encountered an error that made it unplayable or a single disconnect during the entire launch and the same is true for the 30 or so folks that joined me from my guild in another game.

The Secret World had a number of bugs that effected quests and such but again, I never had issues logging in, progressing my story line or getting disconnected.

Rift and SWTOR was the same as GW2 and TSW for me. Virtually no issues except they did have a server queue, which I actually don't mind because I know its just a matter of waiting my turn and have a general idea of when I will get in.

It's a big accomplishment, but only a record for a game operated by a Japanese company.

Guild Wars 2 had 400,000 concurrent users during its head start period, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic hit 350,000 in its first week and a half.

SE's current servers would literally blow up if they tried to host those numbers.

WoW had over a million concurrent users in China BTW.

    Just Wanted to Play

I've been a SysAdmin for 25 years, and currently manage 4 Data Centers worldwide, so I don't envy the position SE is currently in. For the same reason I don't have much sympathy for them either.

All of this could have (and should have) been avoided prior to Launch through proper capacity planning and resource management. Certainly, when things started to come apart at the seams during P4 Open Beta (which up until that point it had been relatively smooth sailing), something should have been done immediately, even though the underlying problems really shouldn't have even gotten that far in the process. To let these issues linger as the days pass post-Launch is simply inexcusable.

At this point, I am in the same frame of mind that the Project Lead of FFXIV:ARR should have been since the first day of Early Access:
"I want a solution and I want it now! I don't want explanations. I don't want excuses. I don't want apologies. I don't want band-aids. I don't want rationalization. I want it fixed today or I want resignations on my desk!"
I'm more patient than most, and I've been through enough MMO Launches to know what is reasonable to expect and what isn't. I certainly have other MMOs to bide my time in until SE is able to resolve their issues. However, I have certainly lost all respect for SE at this point, as they have surpassed NCSoft and SOE in their MMO ineptitude, to the point where it is highly unlikely I will spend anymore money on FFXIV:ARR than I already have when purchasing 3 pre-order copies of the game. I most definitely will never be so foolish as to partake in a MMO from SE ever again. We gave FFXIV a chance, and accepted their apologies about the state of that game at launch. We were patient while they worked on FFXIV:ARR. We were still patient during Early Access, and yet some more after Launch when it was painfully clear that they failed yet a final time to deliver on their promises. There comes a point when patience and understanding come to an end and must be replaced by reason and acceptance of what must be be fundamentally true.

It is shame really as FFXIV:ARR looked as though it had a lot of promise. I very much enjoyed my time in Beta. However, I just don't think SE is able to offer anything more than apologies and excuses at this point, and the only "fix" forthcoming will be the majority of players loosing their patience and moving on, leaving FFXIV:ARR to the smaller number of die-hard fans who have greater patience than the rest of us. At least then the smaller number of players left won't have to face Login and Capacity issues any longer, and can enjoy the game which the rest of us weren't able to do.

You can play now, just create your character on a JP server. I did that, and I can play whenever I want, never seen a queue. In a couple weeks they will have character transfers, and maybe they will give everyone a freebie. If not, then that will be another reason to complain.

Play with your friends who are already playing on NA servers? Fair enough, you can't, and it sucks.

Play a character you used in beta or 1.0? Nope.

But to simply say you cannot play the game is untrue.

    BTW my ping is great.

I couldn't have said it better, the game looks really promising and I will give then a chance till my 1 month game time ends but I just lost my respect to their technical team the same way I lost mine on Sony when they had that server security leak some years ago.

I hope they do fix this problem soon but this won't make me forget about this mess.

funny that they still wanna increase jp servers capacity even though they only have 4 servers that are blocked out compared to all of ours.
