The game was rated 4/10 and the main problems were lack of content, crap battle system, and lag. I think it's pretty obvious that the core of this game isn't fun, it sucks.Except what you are agreeing too is removal of the core system of XIV that makes it fun. You don't have to do that to implement Classic FF JOBS. Because whats in XIV right now are WEAPON CLASSES. Please do not confuse the two.
Also Monks are NOT hand to hand specialists. They are Martial Arts and Chi Specialists. White Monks are the added bonus of a Monk who can use small forms of White Magic.
Monks can use Fists, Kicks, nun-chucks, Staffs, Clubs, Spears, and Throwing Weapons.
They also Self-Heal, Throw Balls of Spirit Energy, Buff up their bodies to withstand an attack, and heal their allies.
Pugilist Specialize in Fist Weapons.
They are NOT mutually interchangeable.
Of those classic class you coughed up only two were in Final Fantasy 1, and the only reason you got those abbreviations was due to 11.
Wanna know how those two turned into those 5? Innovation.
Has everyone already forgotten that class uniqueness and introduction of classic FF classes in some manner is on their to-do list? They will likely keep the current classes and names, along with some new ones and then supplement it with one of two systems to add the classics.
http://www.eorzeapedia.com/2011/03/0...naoki-yoshida/Yoshida-san is between two possible plans at this time. The first idea is that the traditional names would be introduced as “higher” or “advanced” classes. The traditional classes would thus be something of a goal for players. The second idea is that the traditional names would be more of a subset or specialization within the existing classes.
Whatever change is put into effect needs to be right. He recognizes that he will not be able to change the system again after this, so whatever is put into place needs to work, and be able to be balanced, for years to come. Because of this his team is giving this issue a lot of thought prior to implementation.
lack of content was a valid complain, Crap Battle System was due to Lag, and lag has improved quite a bit. But none of those reach back to the character customization. If anything most of the press Praised the Character customization.
The problem is the average English speaking player is too dumb to differentiate "Class" from "Job" in Final Fantasy's terms they are NOT the same and are NOT interchangeable. Thats why its call the Armoury System in XIV and the new system they are implementing is the JOB system.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Flayer (whip), Fencer (rapier), Stavesmen (Staff)
Whip seems cool. Sort of like Quistis from Final Fantasy 8.
Stavesmen makes me think of Donatello, the ninja turtle.
Rapier is possibly the class that I will make my main. Sword fighting with a rapier on a boat = my dream class. I'd roleplay it so hard. ^_^ Three musketeers used rapiers, Captain Jack Sparrow used rapiers, pirates used them in the black and white movies (before they switched to semi-automatic machine guns irl), The Count of Montecristo used a rapier, too. Zoro, I can't forget Zoro!

Personally the Rapier is the class which I most hope to see in an online Final Fantasy game.
Piracy

Yes, we DO understand this. Class=weapon, job=specialization, we got it, we really do. We just want info on how they are going to implement it, and how it relates to the armory system.lack of content was a valid complain, Crap Battle System was due to Lag, and lag has improved quite a bit. But none of those reach back to the character customization. If anything most of the press Praised the Character customization.

So ask. Which you have done. But as has been said by the Devs it wont do anything to change the Armoury system now. It will only augment a character to make them stand out more in the role they want.
So if you want to be a Tank you can equip the job for Paladin for instance, use your favorite weapon and still be an effective tank. Thats how it SHOULD work.

Ever since alpha, I always wanted to see a true sentinel class: shield only (and a massive one at that! 2-handed).
(Yes, it is possible to attack with a shield, but it would be the ultimate tank class wielding huge shields to protect the party members. Special moves to quickly cover the team, force harmful spells to hit your shield instead of a team mate, provides a backward cone of protection against AoE spells [anything behind you], absorb damages and convert them in HP, MP or TP... many options, but pushed to the extreme for the true sentinel class.)
It would be fun to be able to play as a true sentinel.
At least, it would help with tactics and allow more strategies against powerful foes.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
