Fishing in ARR

What I don't understand is how it is acceptable to completely change the purpose of the class in a way so vastly different from what the gathering class was in 1.0. If it no longer has any purpose besides "achievements" (which every other class already does) I feel like I spent countless hours on something that is now for nothing.

Plus who asked for this? -_- I don't understand who they think they are catering to. If they thought fishing was boring or they saw how many players were uninterested... This was the perfect chance to make the class more engaging. Not even more stale.

This to me seems like such an after thought. Like hey who cares its just fishing, lets cut costs and make this easy to do.

Really hope you thread lurkers respond and voice your opinions on this, I don't think there are many people who care enough about fishing when you compare the FFXIV community as a whole and I don't want the game to launch with the DEVs not knowing their small fishing fan-base is about to be nonexistent.

This bothers me as well. To arbitrarily decide that this one class is the class that's broken down into something mindless and completely pointless for... What, exactly? So players can chat? So they don't have to play the game while they're playing the game?

It's lazy. Yoshi is being LAZY. It's obvious he's passionate about pvp and combat and whatever the hell else about the game, but it's also obvious now that he doesn't give a chocobo-sized shit about the gathering classes, and especially fishing. There was a way to make all of the gathering classes more interesting. It's something that set this game apart from the rest, the fact that we could be dedicated gatherers. The new game requires you to get level 10 in a combat class at the start, and that's perfectly fine. I actually agree with that. But after that if someone wanted to dedicate their gaming time to crafting, more power to them. That's the beauty of a role playing game, you get to play it the way you want and nuts to people who say you should play their way.

As it is, Yoshi is saying, "Play my way. Fishing is garbage, no one ever enjoyed it, so no one will care that I'm neutering it beyond use." Yoshi, news flash? There are (were) a lot of us that enjoyed it. I'll say that again:

A lot of us put a lot of time into fishing and genuinely enjoyed it.

I don't see how this is so hard to understand. We have threads upon threads about it. A good 90% of every thread about fishing is from us expressing concern over the intention behind the new fishing. To everyone saying "just wait until you actually try it," we have been waiting. We've been waiting for months now, and we haven't heard anything about the new mechanics. We still don't know anything about the new mechanics! "Weather will do something" and "pick your bait" tells us absolutely nothing. It's a wonder that it's been slated to appear in phase 4, but at that point who gives a damn? It won't even be looked at after it's unceremoniously dropped into the game. I'd be surprised if they ever looked at it again after launch, with the way they've been treating the class and its followers.

Yoshi-P, we are not happy. The older fishers are not happy. People who busted their asses getting the Luminary Rod are not happy.

I don't know how else we could make this any more clear. I'm really glad the JP side is expressing anger at all this because it's obvious you don't give a toss about the NA fishers.

This isn't whining, this is a valid and legitimate concern about a major facet of the game that many of us expected to play only to see it delegated to a worthless past-time. Some people even took fishing up to level 50 in 1.0 so she has every right to send out her complaints and hope the devs and/or mods will take notice.
