    I live in Perth, Western Australia.
    156ms to 202.67.53.202 / jp.square-enix.com
    322ms to 184.107.107.176 / square-enix.montreal.com
    380ms to 209.130.141.243 / eu.square-enix.com

    So they really ought to give Oceania/SEA two of the JP servers (Masamune/Tonberry are the unofficial ones people are claiming)

    No choice but to stay on a Japanese server with such results I believe.

    I am sad because... I remember playing with JP players in both XI and FFXIV 1.0.
    You can still do this. You will still find (some) english speaking players on the JP servers because 1) the legacy servers will still have their NA communities in large part (people who had no issue with how thigns were before aren't likely to move), along with the american nationals living in Japan, as well as people from places like Australia who actually ping better on the JP servers.

    Having two data centers doesn't have to be and isn't the end of the multinational community.

    Here's my similar response http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post1000541

    I am sad because... I remember playing with JP players in both XI and FFXIV 1.0. I enjoyed it because it really gave you a sense of global community. In that same vein, my linkshell is made up of players from all around the globe. We have equal parts NA, EU, and JP time zone players. The split of regional servers is making it difficult for us, because even if we want to stay together, our other ties (friends) are pulling us apart. The JP players want to stay with their friends who will be staying on a JP server. The NA/EU players want to stay with their friends who will be going to an NA/EU server. This will necessarily split us, or force some of us to deal with the two largest disadvantages that going to a regional server which is not 'your own' will put you at...

    First, the most obvious... latency.

    But... this is what happens when they create challenging fights with a demand for lower latency. There's really no way around it.
    It's not intentionally they didn't have good enough servers to process all these people connecting from such distance in a way that they wouldn't be effected by high ping

    If SE first made these servers in various location like now in the first place. Would you had join a Japanese sever any way? No cause you like your 20ms ping. You're leaving just like most because of better pings. People hate lag. SE forced us to be on Jp servers and now we have free will:a choice. People are are choosing lower pings over jp servers because that's what they really want . Diversity was an illusion fabricated by SE cause they didn't want to deal with Global servers maintenance.

    Wanna know something People don't have to change severs. regardless of where the servers are at the only thing that will change will be the ping. You can still venture with your friends the same way at anytime. Battles outside of instances/boss battles are not heavy in processing on server side. Crafting and fielding can still be done with ease as well .And here's the big cookie, you can still play with your friends using cross server. OMG. SO I can have lower ping and still play with people around the world!!! Amazing That's like milk and oatmeal cookies~ while watching Walking dead~ freakin awesome. Now I'm not sure butttt If SE allows Cross server linkshells then that would be like watching Walking Dead in 3D < < After all Grand companies will have housing which will be an instance...

    But I feel ya pain, Stay strong~

    I think cross server linkshells or anything like that would be super hard to implement if they didn't plan for it already. It may happen in the future, and it's nice to dream about while eating your delicious oatmeal cookies, but it'll be faaaaaar into the future, if it happens at all.

    For me, I really have to decide if I want to stay with my LS should they choose to stay on a JP server and if I want to deal with the 200 ms lag. I really like my LS but the lag, for me, made the game almost unplayable at the level of playing I wanted to be at. Killing random mobs and easy endgame was doable... but... Being the solo healer in Ifrit Extreme put a lot of pressure on me. I couldn't mess up. I couldn't get hit by things and die... but when you hit a lag spike with 200 ms lag default, it's going to happen. Weirdly enough, I had the worst problems with lag late at night. o.O;; Some people have gotten upset when I've said that I need to be on an NA server (no matter what), but if I choose to stay on a JP server, I'll be useless at hardmode endgame and then I won't even be able to participate in the most recent content without the lag killing me.

    From splat in the middle of the UK:

    ping 184.107.107.176 (montreal)
    average = 117ms

    ping 202.67.53.202 (japan)
    average = 268ms

    What people need to remember too is :
    1) You are going to have phase 3 for lag testing since SE has confirm that their will be endgame content for player to try.

    2) Phase 3 will give an idea of the population of the server. You can create a new character on any server while room is avaliable and take a look for yourself.

    3) If you decided on a different server, you have phase 4 Open Beta to choose your pernament home.

    4) SE have confirm that transfer server tickets will be introduced in the game at a later date just like XI. (Posible 6 months after release)

    Yes having a global community was fun, specially if I stay after hours; finding a JP group to grind it was interesting with google translate to communicate. For SE to bring a satisfaction to hardcore endgame battle content, you have to look at battles such as Ifrit Extreme where latency will be a big issue. At the same time Yoshi-P has confirm that the content finder will group people from different worlds for instance battles still making it some what global community.

    I'm live in England and I'm getting 118 ping to Montreal and 330 to Japan. If we had a datacentre in europe it'd be much lower, Germany for example gives me a ping of 64.

    Yeah, but then the majority of people we played with would be speaking in those crazy made-up languages they use on the continent. If there's one good thing we can say about our American overlords, it's that they (nearly) speak the right language.
