    NA wanted this too....

And it's not like we played with JPs a whole lot. It was segregated. This whole "international community" is a myth. Unless your idea of "international community" is text you can't read scrolling up on your screen, because it rarely ever went beyond that.

And people say "I play with JPs and they play with me?" Yeah but few if any people from NA/EU could honestly say that they knew who they were or were friends. They played with you because they didn't have a contents finder that could help them distinguish who did/didn't have a JP client.

I read in the forums and it really was 50/50. Some are very sad and some are really happy about it so i'm happy that not all JP are like that.

The forums rarely represent reality. Looking about over my gaming life in FFXIV, I could count maybe a dozen times I'd ever played with JPs. No memory of them ever using Auto-Trans to bridge the gap between languages when seeking a party exists. EU and NA blend together quite nicely on the other hand.

My current shell is the only truly international community I've ever seen with people from all over the world. They all speak very good English though. I'm sure that helps.

If there was an international community that included JP population I never saw it. I'm sure they're very nice, but...

And of course, there's always the factor of the whole latency and ping issue. I think making regional servers was a very diplomatic thing to do. It's not like choosing which server to play on is the biggest and most important decision in the world.

Whereas I wasn't friends with any of the Japanese players, I did join in with them regularly. Whenever I found it impossible to get a party for group content, I'd just go hang out at the place in-game until a party (usually Japanese) appeared in short order. A decent amount of amusing emotes and clumsy auto-translate got me in to the group. They were always very nice!

With a few notable exceptions, most NA players were more interested in doing their own thing than helping out other players, even if they had recently been helped out by said players in their tasks. The number of times I shouted in a bustling Ul'dah for help, or joined up with someone who needed a job quest and we were stuck at three or so members for hours, whilst people sat around and chatted or crafted or formed spiritbond parties over and over and over...

So I will miss greatly the Japanese players who leave Sargatanas, and I do not agree that this data centre thing is a good idea at all. However, I never beat Ifrit hard, and that battle (and future content along the same vein) seems to be the deciding factor about the whole issue.

Agreed. I used to follow them around because they always seemed to know what they were doing. They had the best strats for Dzaemel Darkhold when it came out and for Hamlet when it came out. I'll miss stealing their secrets. I'm not saying that they weren't nice or stuck up or anything. It's just that... language barrier is a thing.

That battle and PvP... When your character is swinging at a ghost instead of the other player, you'll fight very bravely and die very quickly. Having to accomodate for ping times for people so far away can be limiting for devs too. I believe them when they say how hard they thought about this... the decision was probably made back when Dalamud was just a red twinkle.

No, not all NA wanted this.

Some of the best people I had in my endgame shell were JP. We had a great time together. It's unfortunate that this will not be ideal anymore in ARR.

It's easy to sit here and say you are happy about the decision but it's just as easy to ignore the in-game chat if you're not interested in playing with JPs.
