Honest question, how do you not know which version of the game you have registered? I have a giant Amano Art CE box with a Journal and FFXIV SE Token that kind of tell me I have the CE of 1.0, I'm not sure how one could make this mistake.

All you have to do is pull up your account webpage and see if the onion helm is on it. That is CE.

I have both standard and CE copies of 1.0. I can't remember if I was prideful and wanting to register straight from the CE, or if I avoided damaging the CE and used the Standard Edition. I know I later opened both, but I can't remember which copy I used for my initial registry.
The Onion Helm is a separate code from the game registry code. The Garlonde Goggles are separate from the game registry code as well. To further prove this fact, I have neither on my main because I failed to register these codes before creating my character (Yru). They wouldn't let us obtain these items on pre-existing characters, only characters created AFTER registering the code, because the items were automatically added to the new characters' inventories (not feasible with a pre-existing character with full inventory).
That being said, I do have the Onion Helm registered, but only because I did so long after the announcement of "2.0" thinking maybe I'd have a second chance to get it. It is still not at all indicative of which of my two codes I'd used when I first registered the game. It does, however, mean I have additional proof to show SE that I bought the CE.
Edit: Furthermore, I just wiped most of my HD to cleanly install Windows 7 because Windows XP is not on the minimum OS requirements anymore. A mere upgrade wasn't working for some reason, so all of my files, including any record of 1.0 registry that might have been on this computer, are forever gone. SE support is my only hope atm.

It can happen. My physical copy of XIV is in another country because they don't ship to Brazil so I had to remote-acquire through a friend in the US. (not CE, though)
