The Onion Helm code was a separate code that came with the CE. I know because I registered it long after realizing I couldn't add it to an existing character, thinking I might make a second character. But thanks, this does give me quite a bit of hope.
Honestly, registering that code may be enough to qualify the account as CE. Only Square Enix knows for sure. Hopefully they'll be able to address more of this scenarios/questions.

Indeed. 60% of my memory tells me I registered the CE and not the standard, but the other 40% would like concrete evidence of this. If they could update the account management page or something to show who has a CE registered, I would be more than grateful.

I hope you guys that purchased PC collector's edition will be able to get your money back.
It's pretty silly that you have to buy the digital upgrade and the physical collector's edition just to get all the items. Maybe they can at least offer the digital upgrade for free for those that purchased the physical PC collector's edition and want to apply the digital items to their legacy accounts.

This is absolutely the smartest thing they could do, if not allow us to register the PC CE to our Service Account. We should be able to put in our code on the Digital Upgrade site and upgrade our existing accounts accordingly.I hope you guys that purchased PC collector's edition will be able to get your money back.

hmmm this is confusing. Can we use the early access and preorder items codes from phys. CE on a pre existing windows account?

Ok has anyone figured this out yet?
My sister and I are both 1.0 CE registered + Legacy Members.
To get the ARR in-game items we just do nothing.
To get the Physical CE ARR items we need to buy the PC CE box
To get the Pre-Order bonuses we do ????
Can PC 1.0 CE + Legacy apply the pre-order bonuses (early access, cait sith minion, mog cap) to our existing account?
This is all so confusing.
Since you are a 1.0 CE owner you do not need to do anything to get the in game items for the CE version, but if you want the pre-order items you need to pre-order a copy of FFXI:ARR. The pre-order will come with a separate code to enter in. SE will let you know when you can enter in that code at a later date.Ok has anyone figured this out yet?

How is this not fair? That's fine if you only want the digital items, but if you want the physical items as well and you have a standard edition account, you're forced to either buy the PS3 physical CE which may not be an option for some people,
The digital upgrade is cheaper because it doesn't include the physical items. Key word "digital." If you want the physical items, of course you have to buy the full collector's edition. This applies to everyone, regardless of situation.
This part is wrong. You don't need to buy the physical CE AND the digital upgrade. Where did you get this idea?or buy both the PC physical CE and the Digital CE account upgrade in order to get all the CE items.
-edit- I see what ppl are talking about now.
... Why can't the bonus items just be their own code? (...)
