PC Legacies Can't Get CE Items?

Legacy status accounts are still treated the same as standard edition accounts in FFXIV:ARR, so If you have no interest in the physical items that come with the collector's edition, and have no intentions of playing on the PS3, using the digital upgrade will allow you to receive the collector's edition items with your current account.
    According to the above quote:
    - 1.0 players with a Standard Edition Windows code registered to their account will not be able to register any ARR Windows code, Collector's Edition or not.
    - Because the Collector's Edition code is tied to the in-game bonuses, players registered with a Standard Edition 1.0 code will not be able to receive these in-game bonuses.
    - The PS3 Collector's Edition can be registered to any account using a PS3, and will net the player all bonuses. This counts as a registry for both versions.

    Other problems:
    - There was no clear warning on the purchase site about the limitation for PC users. 1.0 players who bought the Windows Collector's Edition and do not regularly check the forums may not be aware of the limitation and find themselves unable to take action by the time they receive their Collector's Edition.

    Player-Side Solutions:
    - 1.0 players who bought the Windows Collector's Edition can cancel their order and purchase the PS3 Collector's Edition. (No, thanks. I'd rather have the Windows CE, and not everyone has a PS3.)
    - Players can opt to pay for the Digital Upgrade, turning their Standard Edition 1.0 account into a Collector's Edition account. (No, thanks. We should not be made to pay extra.)

    Square-Enix-Side Solutions:
    - Separate the primary registration code from the Collector's Edition bonus codes. If it is not possible to do this in the package, a way to redeem this code should be made available (automatic e-mail, support center, etc.)
    - Allow buyers of the Collector's Edition to redeem their registration code on the Digital Upgrade service. (To me this seems like the easiest solution.)

I myself bought both the CE and the Standard of 1.0 back in 2010, but I forgot which I registered to my account. I'm worried that I registered the Standard Edition, and there is no way to check on the Account Management page. My plan is to call Square-Enix tomorrow and ask if I can cross-check my registration codes. This, however, is more specific to my situation and doesn't solve the rest of the problem.

@Devs: If I made any mistakes in my understanding of the situation, please reply to this thread. This is more than some "will we be allowed to get married or take baths together" type question, because it is a lot of money to lose over a screw-up. Not to mention failure to accurately advertise or warn is a big no-no.

There were distinct registration codes for both the standard and collector's edition in Version 1.0. There's no need to worry about trying to confirm it. It's well documented in the Square Enix account system.
Which is good news for me at least. Unfortunately those of you who for sure don't have the 1.0 CE registered are still out of luck for the Windows CE.
