PC Legacies Can't Get CE Items?

However, if you purchase the Windows collector's edition, it cannot be registered to your account, as your legacy account is considered a pre-existing Windows account.

Legacy status accounts are still treated the same as standard edition accounts in FFXIV:ARR, so If you have no interest in the physical items that come with the collector's edition, and have no intentions of playing on the PS3, using the digital upgrade will allow you to receive the collector's edition items with your current account.
    According to the above quote:
    - 1.0 players with a Standard Edition Windows code registered to their account will not be able to register any ARR Windows code, Collector's Edition or not.
    - Because the Collector's Edition code is tied to the in-game bonuses, players registered with a Standard Edition 1.0 code will not be able to receive these in-game bonuses.
    - The PS3 Collector's Edition can be registered to any account using a PS3, and will net the player all bonuses. This counts as a registry for both versions.

    Other problems:
    - There was no clear warning on the purchase site about the limitation for PC users. 1.0 players who bought the Windows Collector's Edition and do not regularly check the forums may not be aware of the limitation and find themselves unable to take action by the time they receive their Collector's Edition.

    Player-Side Solutions:
    - 1.0 players who bought the Windows Collector's Edition can cancel their order and purchase the PS3 Collector's Edition. (No, thanks. I'd rather have the Windows CE, and not everyone has a PS3.)
    - Players can opt to pay for the Digital Upgrade, turning their Standard Edition 1.0 account into a Collector's Edition account. (No, thanks. We should not be made to pay extra.)

    Square-Enix-Side Solutions:
    - Separate the primary registration code from the Collector's Edition bonus codes. If it is not possible to do this in the package, a way to redeem this code should be made available (automatic e-mail, support center, etc.)
    - Allow buyers of the Collector's Edition to redeem their registration code on the Digital Upgrade service. (To me this seems like the easiest solution.)

I myself bought both the CE and the Standard of 1.0 back in 2010, but I forgot which I registered to my account. I'm worried that I registered the Standard Edition, and there is no way to check on the Account Management page. My plan is to call Square-Enix tomorrow and ask if I can cross-check my registration codes. This, however, is more specific to my situation and doesn't solve the rest of the problem.

@Devs: If I made any mistakes in my understanding of the situation, please reply to this thread. This is more than some "will we be allowed to get married or take baths together" type question, because it is a lot of money to lose over a screw-up. Not to mention failure to accurately advertise or warn is a big no-no.

Update found in Hvinire's latest post:

There were distinct registration codes for both the standard and collector's edition in Version 1.0. There's no need to worry about trying to confirm it. It's well documented in the Square Enix account system.
Which is good news for me at least. Unfortunately those of you who for sure don't have the 1.0 CE registered are still out of luck for the Windows CE.

Correct seems that we're screwed. And to make things better SE didn't make the CE (PC) available outside the NA SE store so I'm out of $82 for the moment (had it been Amazon I would just cancel and pre-order the PS3 version and see how I would go around using a PS3).

Come on, what's another $20 + the first month (since we'll have to pay as soon as the service starts)?

    We were doing so good.

How are you screwed? All you have to do is upgrade to the CE and you get the CE bonus items.

If you already own the 1.0 collector's edition, you don't even need to do that.

As for the per order items, you only get those by pre ordering. If you already own and don't choose to pre order anything, you don't get the pre order bonuses because you didn't pre order. I would agree it sucks but it is at least clearly spelled out.

That's fine if you only want the digital items, but if you want the physical items as well and you have a standard edition account, you're forced to either buy the PS3 physical CE which may not be an option for some people, or buy both the PC physical CE and the Digital CE account upgrade in order to get all the CE items.

This. I want all the things, and it should not have been that hard for them to allow this. They should separate the bonus codes from the game service code.

The problem is if we (e.g., I) order the PC CE and can't cancel it. We'll get a bunch of neat stuff, but none of the digital content. This is assuming we don't have the 1.0 CE registered. Some people think 1.0 players wanting to upgrade to CE will have to pay an extra fee, but if we already spent $70+ on the ARR CE we should be given all of the bonuses.

    False.

If you preorder ps3 CE, it can be applied to an existing PC account, AND you get all the goodies, plus PS3 access.

If you want it, cancel your PC preorder, and preorder the PS3 version instead.

    Case.

Not quite. What about the people who did all of the following:

    -Registered Standard Edition of 1.0
-Pre-ordered the PC Collector's Edition of ARR
-Don't regularly check the forums about this sort of thing

The fact of the matter is there was no clear warning anywhere on the ad page or the purchase page, and only after they try to register it will they realize they aren't getting everything advertised. Failure to place warnings on things causes people to unsheathe their lawyers, not that I personally will do so.

I actually think his response is worded very poorly. Hes not saying ALL Legacy accounts = Standard Edition accounts. I believe he is trying to say that a Legacy Standard Edition account remains a Standard Edition account. Legacy does not upgrade your account from SE to CE.

If you have 1.0 CE you will still qualify for the in-game items, even if you are Legacy.

    That's my interpretation of it.

The people that are getting screwed are the Standard Edition Legacy accounts. If they want both the physical and in-game CE items they have to not only get the physical CE copy, but also the digital upgrade. Pretty silly if you ask me.

I hope so, because to me it still looks like "If you have a pre-existing Windows account, the Windows CE will net you nothing but physical items." This is an extremely bad move to make without any notice on the purchase page. I may be out $70+.
