While they're certainly similar looking, there was originally a huge distinction between the two. Thaumaturges use Scepters and Staves. Conjurers use Wands and Radicals.
Here are the definitions for them according to Gamerescape:
Scepter vs Wand
A scepter is a short rod made of metal and/or bone, within which is housed a medium -- a natural stone imbued with magical properties. Scepters are arms of the Thaumaturge.Staff vs RadicalA wand is a short rod made of unworked wood which is used to focus aether until it manifests as a desired spell. Wands are arms of the Conjurer.
A staff is a long rod made of metal and/or bone, within which is housed a medium -- a natural stone imbued with magical properties. Staffs (also called "staves") are arms of the Thaumaturge.Saying they're the same thing is like saying lions and tigers are the same because they're both felines.A radical is a long rod made of unworked wood which is used to focus aether until it manifests as a desired spell. Radicals are arms of the Conjurer.
That's fair enough, thanks for the clarification!
Just to mull over; we know that ACN Grimoires are made and repaired by Alchemists, and it is probably due to their magical nature (i.e. summoning beasts from within the pages).
SCHs, on the other hand, would just use Tomes due to the knowledge they hold within, so it's pretty simple to draw differences between the Tomes and Grimoires if we see one as a book imbued with a magical essence whilst the other is just an encyclopaedia of spells.
Therefore the similarities between the two would be the same as those between the THM and CNJ weapons.
Why did you go straight to Viera I wonder?Okay all that said, how does THAT mage fit into THIS game? What is it's base class? What are it's subclasses? How does SCH not function like a CNJ...a class already in game? What special abilities would they have that would make a party want to recruit them over the mages already in game?
You're trying to imply a new race is being 'secretly added' along with a new 'job' I'll give you SCH is plausible...Viera is not...and once again, he's teasing the community.
See, that's a better way to state the argument.SCHs, on the other hand, would just use Tomes due to the knowledge they hold within, so it's pretty simple to draw differences between the Tomes and Grimoires if we see one as a book imbued with a magical essence whilst the other is just an encyclopaedia of spells.
Therefore the similarities between the two would be the same as those between the THM and CNJ weapons.
Let me get this right.
So now somewhere in the FF Universe, SCH (Which it clearly is a pic of) has now become a "pet" (ARN) job?
Just asking. . .
Welcome to The Locker!!
