Thanks, I didn't read over that this morning. I knew the first paragraph looked word for word the same but I couldn't remember the bit about the water temperature being mentioned before.
If Yoshida can make it casual and "hardcore" available that would be awesome!
(Just like I imagine fishing (I've only had small fish I could reel in with one hand lol, but I know there are big powerful fish)) - many cases where you can chat and calmly cast, but there are times, places, and baits that will bring you some serious game.
Different sizes / skills makes me think that maybe he has this in mind. I certainly hope so.
Edit: Depth could be a great variable for discerning difficulty as well. Then unless you are a noob fisher you can easily decide what kind of fish you want, temperature, bait, water type, location, depth, might be getting a bit crazy but you could introduce movement patterns as well (as either "stance" abilities that are in effect till canceled or switched, like zig zag, bobbing, ect ect - attracting different types of fish or through a sort of Zelda style (though I dont know how you could chat then lol)).
Interesting if they make the technique relate to the items retrieved rather then the RNG (less-RNG) like:
If you get a heavy bait drop it low (deep) and then quickly reel it in you are much more likely to get coral and other sea ground related items.
Knowing the depth of the water could come from trial and error or some sort of fishing device, then say if you have a heavy bait and have it a little bit above the ground then large slow fish may grab it rather then coral.

my guess their thoughts were "complex minigames dont stop botting, so lets just make it simple as possible"
People who dont like gathering and just want to get it done I think will like that but I think its a horrible idea lol
I'd prefer an immersive experience that has a minigame that relates to the activity.
Then like the battle classes who are supposed to be designed to be fun and to their job, the crafting and gathering are designed similarly. If you dont like playing GLD you dont play GLD, so if you dont want to learn how to play Fisher you dont play Fisher - I dont like the idea "Well I need fish for my cooker but I hate having to learn how to do this so make it easy so I can do it quickly and trivilize the other Fishers ability".
Like I hate tanking so make tanking easy because I want to be able to do everything.
Well, how about you dont do everything lol. (General "you" statements, not actually directed at you Gin)
My thoughts exactly. I can understand changing it so gathering/crafting classes aren't a part of the main storyline anymore, but Yoshi went too far with the dumbing down. Not everything has to be accessible to everyone. Some people will not like any system, no matter how easy it is, and there's nothing that can change that. Instead of trying to cater to them, why not cater to the people who genuinely like the class.People who dont like gathering and just want to get it done I think will like that but I think its a horrible idea lol

I'm right there with you on this. I'm lost as to why they want to attract people who don't like gathering in the first place. But then, it seems that there are actually people who gather for reasons other than because they like it, and i guess we should accept them as part of the equation....?
I am okay and not okay with this situation.
I know that a part of me is not okay with it because I was actually somewhat disappointed when I first read the translation.
However, I am okay with it because it brings back memories of XI (though I could just go log on now if I want to...)
But...from the sound of it, even XI had a more dynamic fishing system than what is going to happen to XIV's fishing system. the fishing in 1.0 was more complex than XI's...now it seems XI's is more complex than ARR.
This isn't a HUGE impact on me. I enjoy Fishing, and there are days where I'm busy, but I really want to just enjoy the scenery and sound and ambience of the game in my apartment. So on those days where I just want to chill out, I can see myself just fishing away.
I'll be okay with this.
I'm so glad this thread is going strong; thank you everyone for your input, please continue to share and be awesome!
@ Rex I feel you there, but even in my relaxing times I still want something 'fun' not something that feels...mindnumbing><.
In XI I was a fish-a-holic, on my days from work I could easily spend 10h fishing and doing nothing but fishing, I almost sliced bluetails to extinction so I could continue to get marlins for 'inside the belly' haha
I don't mind a fishing system that is more akin to XI if they are so dead-set on changing everything, but I can't see myself liking something that they're trying to tailor to those who detest gathering><
@Llen + Aku - I really understand where you guys are coming from and acho your sentiments 100%!! I look forward to trying fishing in 2.0, but at the same time I think I dread it more. From the translation it sounds as if it's just going to be the shell of what it once was ; ;
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
I agree, it should be fun and I'd be happy with an XI style system more than a mind numbing system.I'm so glad this thread is going strong; thank you everyone for your input, please continue to share and be awesome!

Well, just make sure you have great bait/rods/gear! ;p
I think fishing will still be valid. I mean how are alchemist going to get the oils needed to craft their items?
