Read the thread, I'm not controlling anyone or telling people what to do. The game itself has to be designed in balance with solo and group. I don't want another 1.0 explosion where there is no group play.
agreed, it would be nice if there was more Morbols, Magitech Vanguards, Iron Giants, what-not in high lv zones, rather than lv 55 marmotsYeah I hated that about FFXI. HERE COMES A RABBIT RUN!!!! lol
(Though a part of that problem is the monster choice for higher zones, they could have picked stronger monster and it would have made more sense to run in fear without a group lol)
I imagine a level 50 should be able to solo Totorak though (they can, I hate the forced party limit though - "you need two people" .. what for? I'm going to go bitch slap the main boss with my nuke lol). I dont mind being forced in the party if people are still doing the content, and content finder will help a lot with that - but still it took me 4 non stop hours of shouting for the first baby Ifrit fight to get a group of people (all level 50's but me) to instantly kill Ifrit (cant imagine how long I'd have to wait if the party had a chance of dying because of level sync). At that point SE should just make the boss fight an option to turn into a challenging solo fight (including your pal chocobo).
Ya i found that annoying too, since i joined game late August; it wasn't until i got into a LS, that i could get into Toto-rak. I was outside waiting, and there was some groups going in, but they just ignore me. I shouted in multiple maps, but no one wanted to comeSo yah, in such a case i'd out-lv the content, and should be able to solo it.
Me myself I solo played while waiting for groups to form and great ready...though in the end while I got almost all of the GC main quest done and I did do the Prime fights (war tank for most part or dieing as drg dd >.>) It seem to me that FFXIV was more of what you made it rather then what everyone else wants to be. FFXI is bad about that since all main stories and off shoots Needed a party to do which made it where you had no choice but to wait. Which is why in the end I choose FFXIV over FFXI because in the end players choose what they want to do rather then be pigeon-holed into a complete Party play style game

I think the FATE system should be able to accommodate the needs of people who want solo play. If it's anything like GW2's random event system (which seems to be the case) then you will be able to play with a ton of people without the need to have the best gear or form a party and still make progress.
I read in the translation thread that Behemoth will be fought through the FATE system. Behemoth in my opinion is a pretty significant fight as it is a staple in the Final Fantasy series. Being that, most people would of course want to take part in it, and doing so without being hassled to join a group would provide a great experience for everyone.
This should give people that "solo play" they want while being able to play with the community. Like HamHam and others said, most people simply don't want to be hassled by making a party.

MMORPGs can be played solo but, if you expect end-game solo content, you'll be disappointed. In FFXIV:ARR end-game contents, only PvP and FATE events might offer you to solo in the first months (and probably the next ones too). PvP might have duals and, with FATE events, you don't need to be in party with anyone else to get the rewards. On the other hand, dungeons, crystal tower, primals, behemoth's labyrinth and hamlet defenses are all for parties.
Basically, PvP and FATE will offer you the chance to play solo but end-game contents will always remain multi-players-needed contents.
Wait, we already established that the end of 1.0 had a good balance.
Since it's the same team why cant we infer that 2.0 would share these solo vs group characteristics?
I'm talking about 1.0 Launch not being the same as 2.0 launch is what I'm saying. Yes, I have every ounce of faith in Yoshi-P, but there's that small part of me that wants the launch to go smoothly this time.
right. i'd be fine with more forced party for whatever, if it would be quick and easy to join one, and you wouldn't have to stress about ruining the party, cause they could find new member in a min. But that's pretty much impossible, since there's so many maps, and so much content; everyone is spread out to much.
on the other hand it annoys me when i'm in some area, where some other people are on same quest mobs, and i invite them to party, and they refuse...i mean really? why fight over the mobs?
I think 1.0 was fine. party xp was faster, so there was incentive to party, but it wasn't forced on you; i think that's good enough.
The only things that I'm against requiring parties are the storyline and to a lesser extent levelling. Reason I'm against partying for storyline content is that once people get past a fight, they never seem to want to do it again. I was stuck on baby Ifrit for months. Partly this is my fault for not coming back until May, but no one wanted to come kill him because they were all on 'United We Stand' or 'To Kill a Raven'. When I got to 'United We Stand', people that were 'To Kill a Raven' didn't want to help because "I don't need that anymore." Partying to beat a mission at the level it's designed for is fine, but if I'm level 50 and can solo baby Ifrit without breaking a sweat, I should be required to beg people to come so that we can kill him in a matter of seconds. As for requiring a party to level, there is no such thing. It's always possible to find some way to level solo if you try ahrd enough.
