I don't understand why people would be against adding a gunblade class... I sure as heck would not play it but more classes is a good thing. I would not play Samurai or Geomancer either but bring em in!

I can't tell what class or job they are, but its obvious he is some kind of Knight.
It may have to do with Squall and Lighting being my two least liked protagonists.
And me just hating the look of a honking knife attached to the end of a gun barrel.
Gunblade + Spellblade = Mystic Knight
Does it make a sense to you?
Because Final Fantasy have too many jobs that people are bitching for. I think new jobs shouldn't come in an expansion like FFXI did. Just get new jobs via updating would be a good idea though.
If they bring a Red Mage job then I am good.
I'm really against a job called Gunblade.. offers no thematic idea (is purely a "weapon" title and that's not what jobs are) and I'm against a class called gunblade because we already have gladiator which uses swords and lancer that uses polearms (there is a gunlance).
Soldier - while FF7 based, I believe that it fits to Garleans and that Cloud relates to Squall and so if I had to "job" Squall I'd call him a Soldier job type. Still there are other types of gun weapons.. Giving someone all the gun weapons seems weird but not giving access to them also seems weird - and making a "gunmelee" job for every gun weapon seems crazy. (also you dont need a gun"melee" weapon to make the soldier job, just an idea to correlate the classic gun blade users- but as I say below you also have honking huge weapon users... lol)
Although if you call it soldier someone is going to want to see the Buster Sword or Tsurugi... so.. lol
It just seems more pratical to introduce the gun melee weapons to each class based on the weapon type. Not dedicate a whole class to one type of weapon losing the others - or dedicating one class to all types of gun weapons and really confusing people.

In the back of the CE journal for 1.0 they had some detailed drawing of guns, not blades, just flintlock pistols, i always wondered what they were gonna do with those.
I don't think it's necessary to create a brand new Class for the Armoury System just to bring out Gunblade or Gunlance as a weapon. I also don't feel that whatever class wielding it would need to have 'all the gun weapons' as previously stated by a few people. Why not make a Gunblade wielding Job and Gunlance wielding job as secondary options for Gladiator and Lancer? Musketeer Guild was already established and gives us a great basic gun wielding class. MSK/GLD and MSK/LNC could branch out into secondary Job options and just have Gunblades exclusive to the Job only and Gunlances exclusive to that job only... Like a weapon that could be wielded by a PLD but not a GLD. I personally love the job system and expanding on a basic class to give a more specified role in the party, but I'm not a big fan of the 1:1 I would love to see in the future Gladiator having multiple options... maybe ARC having a more DD focused option rather than Bard... hell maybe a MNK/GLD somehow turns into a Ninja. I dunno... can't wait to see what SE has in store for us![]()

lol now look at that, they are my favorite protags. Oh and i love the idea of a Gunblade i even have Squall and Lightning as a figure and a mini gunblade key chain.
I just want to wield a gunblade![]()
Gunblade is probably one of the craziest weapon idea ever came up with. Seriously, a pistol is already considered to be a close quarters weapon, how is adding on a big ol' blade supposed to help with it? If anything, reinforce the barrel so you can parry with it and continue shooting when the enemy gets close enough. At the other end of the spectrum, the gun-spear weapon is actually somewhat decent, as it's taking the other direction of the rifle/bayonet combination. Instead of giving your ranged weaponry the capability to be melee weapons, give your melee weapons the capability to go ranged beyond that of the throwing arm. That way you can inflict some serious damage at extremely long range against cavalry or charging infantry before hunkering down to skewer the incoming forces. But seriously, gunblades are retarded and should never be seriously considered as a live combat weapon.
Considering the Ironworks in Limsa and Cid are working to build technology similar to the Empire, or at least get their hands on it to prepare for whatever magitek they have, I'm going to assume that they are "working" on creating gunblades, even if it's a version different than what the Garleans have (spellblades? Anything goes).
Considering that there are two gunblades in the game, it's remotely possible they'll make their debut sometime, though they can just as easily remain boss weapons. Centurions, the leaders of platoons in the Empire's army carry gunblades as well, so the former idea is more probable.
Musketeers have been confirmed more than any other class that has been even speculated to appear in the game, and most likely after Archanist (though of course with no guarantee), AND there's a guild dedicated to them. Plus they're in Limsa, right around the corner from the Ironworks. Could mean something, could not. But as long as the devs are working on implementing guns, I'm sure they can't help but to consider or even prepare for gunblades, however they may show up.
The question is when will the gunblades be implemented. The second question is how, as there's two options:
Allow gunblades as just weapons a few classes can pick up (or even universal weapons to allow all classes). This doesn't break the armoury system (which sadly could be redone in the ways of how to choose your class--because I want a greatsword for my Warrior! More weapon variety in general!)
or
Create a class specifically for the gunblade weapons and leave everything intact by copying the Archer class and pasting a gunblade over the bow and giving them a few unique abilities. Or make them a kind of mage. Or come out with spellblades instead and /then/ make them mages.
Whatever they do is way far off. My point is that gunblades are probably in the works right now, or at least are on the backburners and are more than a possibility. And using a bit of common sense, most people are saying they hate it or either want them to be a specific class or add them to some/all classes, especially with an added ability, and without much change in the current system, these are the only options available to us.
Unless if they revamp the armory system, but considering there's at least Archanist out at launch and one other class to follow, they won't be changing the armoury system anytime soon, especially if it's not broke. (which can be debatable. Not that it's really broke, I just want a little variety, which can't be done because that means I'm a different class -.-![]()
