Jobs that branch off Glad: Paladin (Short sword), Dark Knight (Scyth (or maybe dark knight comes from warrior.. you get the picture)).

You would never be locked into that job.. you would pick GLA, equipped scythe... then you could equipped DRK soulstone, or whatever it was called.. i cant remember anymore. If you wanted to move to PLD you change back to GLA, change to short sword and then equiped PLD soulstone.

Same can be done with CNJ.. it could go from CNJ to WHM or RDM.. but now thinking about this.. this is pretty Jacked up considering the system we already have.. because why couldn't RDM come from BLM??? Ohwell.. I guess it looks like there are more classes to level for all of us in the end.
I tell you, like I said I don't know many times before.. every class gets abilities (and this will be even more refined in ARR) that go in synergy with their "job" and their role. Gladiator gets a TON of damage mitigation abilities, and it's its natural evolution to be a tank. If Gladiator were go get a second job, Dark Knight, what would it do with all the tanking abilities, since a Dark Knight is all about hurting enemies at risk of hurting yourself too? It makes NO SENSE.

And I won't even waste time explaining why this goes so much against everything the Armoury system stands for, or even how using a sword makes you more balanced/defensive and using a spear more offensive.

If the basics that support it are unnecessary and harmful (taking away variety from the game is harmful, at least in my opinion), discussing how things should be implemented doesn't make all that sense.
Yes, it could work, but it doesn't take care of the issue of abilities being in synergy with a particular playstyle.

Hey, what if, when equipping the other weapon, we get different skills? Like a different class, but, like, the same class?
