    Branching the Jobs

Don't know if this was already covered, but searched for it and didn't see it.

This possibly might make it too WoW-esc, but what about branching the jobs.

Like Whm can either go to a healing style, and get bonuses to healing or a debuffing branch where they would be more rdm-esc

Or Blm could be a nuker, or a battlemage branch (maybe even drk style)

Warrior can go dps or def

    etc.

And I mean they would actually have some sort of a talent tree to get bonuses towards going these routs(yes I know its very WoW sounding) Not sure if I like this idea myself, but thought it was interesting enough to post.

    Your thoughts?

I believe Yoshida wants each job to be particular to the style its title emanates, if someone could find the quote I'd be grateful cause I have no idea where to look lol - some old post I believe.

Really a can of worms here (so many opinions of how jobs should be) but I'd personally like to see a tactics system with jobs, get warrior and white mage to level 30 and then unlock a level 1 Paladin. I'm really not a fan of the limited thematic fittings of each job (since each job can only have 5 spells added till level increase, that and the connection of weapons and previous job abilities that you want to include / exclude which creates a spider web network to manage).

I think branching in that manor is good, but branching in the manor that each job can "branch" itself I think is not good because each job has a theme (white mages are healers, black mages are the magic damage dealers, ect ect. .)

The original system by Tanaka would probably be like what you where describing but Yoshida restricted the classes/jobs and made them more iconic and less flexible.

(Its not that I don't like variation in play styles, its just that I believe the job is the variation in play style - but that's just my opinion, if you could get it to work this way then hey w.e it works lol :P)

I don't think it's necessary because jobs have a job to do already and you can switch your job whenever you want too. If you want to heal, pick a whm. If you want to dot, pick an arcanist. If you want to melee DD, then pick a melee DD. Just doesn't seem very intuitive to make a game where you can switch your class and be anything, and then have sub sections of each class. Why not just bring out a whole new class to fill that archetype?

I feel that specialty jobs like Drk should be independent of all other jobs.

I hope they will separate more the jobs from their disciplines... I want Conjurer will have Stone 3 for exemple and whm can't, but you'll still be able to switch one to another, but better seperation. After WHM poped nobody ever used Conjurer.
With more specific gear for each.

For now jobs are only the same class with 5skills+, and some often useless skills blocked.

I don't have any link at hand, but wether or not classes should have multiple jobs it's something that has been discussed more than once in the past (of which I'm pretty sure, I contributed to them). And every time it's been a sterile discussion, with each part unwilling to listen to the other.
Personally, I find it completely unnecessary, because it would require every class to have two jobs (otherwise why some will have two and other won't?) and it will take away variety from the game on the long run (less classes needed = less unique kinds of weapons).

I understand that what you are suggesting is slightly different, but it's basically the same concept, just with even more variety taken out from the game, because instead of two different jobs it will be the same job covering two roles.

Sorry if I've been rude (I have), but these discussions are always so sterile that looking at it I could see nothing but another endless streak of opposing posts.

Truth to be told, Lady, Jobs are already the branching of Classes. Gotta keep in mind that in the future there will be more than one job per class, and then it will look more like they are what they really are

I was wondering about that, and still not 100 percent sure how Yoshi will be implementing more jobs. Because let's say they implement a thief job, and if a thief will come from an existing class like PUG or something, by than everyone's PUG would be 50, there for once you unlock your thief job and do the 5 quests to get your new thief abilities, than your thief would now be 50 as your PUG is already 50.

I always assumed they would always add new classes for each job, like maybe a Rogue class that turns to a thief at 30.
