No you can't try playing anything online when PSN is down it will prompt you to sign in to PSN and when you try you will get an error that says they are doing maintenance.
Ugh, playstation... One reason why the game will be limited in some aspects..Playstation can't do this and can't do that.. Can't render this many this's n that many that's... They need to make better playstations... Being forced to work with hardware that is already years outdated is such a bad idea..
They should be looking at PS4 Hardware, forget about ps3.. It's time has passed..
I know this is about the network but the logic still stands.
I agree, with playstation 3 being so limited I wish they would just wait for the ps4/xbox720. I remember playing ff11 back in the day and constantly hearing stuff from SE like "We can not increase inventory due to the ps2 limitations". I really don't want to see that in ff14 ARR. 4-5 years down the road and ARR will be really limited due to the ps3 decision. I have faith in yoshi and I really hope that in the future of ARR like 5-6 years down the road they could still somehow enhance the engine/graphics on the PC version at least to keep up with the times, I really hope they can.Ugh, playstation... The only limitations I could see are memory which are more issues with the ui, from what I've seen. I'm not so worried about any other issues because the graphics are so well that I can't imagine it getting any better. We even have 3D for the ps3. My only problem with ff11 was the menu based fighting system, graphics, having to buy maps, and lack of mini-maps... ff14 has fixed all of these issues, it is even supposed to work on weaker computers so its nice...I agree, with playstation 3 being so limited I wish they would just wait for the ps4/xbox720. True, I don't see this being a major problem now or for the next few years, but let's say in 5 years SE want's to release a huge expansion pack that would have huge battles, bigger than dynamis with like 20-30 monsters on screen and 30+ players, or something along those lines, the ps3 graphics card could not process all that, or at least with out major lag issues. The only limitations I could see are memory which are more issues with the ui, from what I've seen. And I do agree that the graphics for ARR are very good and seems you can't get much better, but when ff11 first came out the graphics were amazing at the time, really amazing, but as the years went on not so much, like comparing ff11 to ff14 is a huge difference. I know comparing stuff to WOW is not exactly a popular thing to do, but WOW over the years has done many graphic updates during new expansion releases to enhance the visuals as technology changes. I'm just thinking long term, I want ff14 to be a MMO that I can pretty much play, well for at least 20 years? XD and in 10 years these graphics if not updated will be really outdated, but if the game is great that wont bother me, but it will effect the player base and people will phase out to newer and improved mmo's.The only limitations I could see are memory which are more issues with the ui, from what I've seen. Also there a limitation how many people can be display on the screen a cap which mean they would have to make sure every endgame does not go beyond that cap or ps3 can't see the mobs. Not if they find a way to fix it so ps3 users can still play with that cap and load the mobs they need and unload other they don't need which it seem like there doing if it work out great then i guess there no issue there. The only limitations I could see are memory which are more issues with the ui, from what I've seen. If its anything like FFXI on 360, SE will probably link your PSN with your SE ID so you can't cheat on trophies by logging into someone else account. They did this on Xbox 360 you had to link your Live account to your POL account and sign in to Live before you could sign in to FFXI so you couldn't cheat on achievements and FFXI achievements were hard to get. When live was down you couldn't play FFXI.
Not 100% true. Once you are logged into FFXI, it runs live service and the Playonline service simultaneously. If you were already in FFXI and XBL goes down, you will still be able to play. However, you're screwed if you decided to /shutdown, because you wouldn't be able to log back in. I'm nearly 90% sure this is why we aren't seeing a port to 360, because of this bypass and truly no need for the XBL service.
