Scheduling Events Around Playstation Network & ARR

Greetings!

Seeing as ARR will be the first FF MMO to utilize the Playstation Network (launched in 2006), will you be adjusting your LS event schedule around Network outages?

Plan for the unpredictable! I would just hate to setup a massive event to go raid Lord Oinky's castle, only to boot up my game & find out that Sony's performing an emergency maintenance on the Rainbow Bridge of Justice!

It would be no worse than SE themselves needing to take the game down suddenly for emergency maintenance - it's a fact of life with online games. You'll just learn to adapt and postpone any events that were planned, it's no big deal. Besides, FFXI players have been dealing with this for a decade nearly anyway without complaint (on PS2 and later 360).

Do it need a PSN connection or do it connect direct to the SE servers after starting the PS3 client?

Seeing how my ls is full of PC users i don't see this being a problem for me for a while at least. But it would suck later down the road if we do need psn connection.

The game will not be ran on psn servers so that wont matter. You can always play games online even if psn is down.

No you can't try playing anything online when PSN is down it will prompt you to sign in to PSN and when you try you will get an error that says they are doing maintenance.

Ugh, playstation... One reason why the game will be limited in some aspects..Playstation can't do this and can't do that.. Can't render this many this's n that many that's... They need to make better playstations... Being forced to work with hardware that is already years outdated is such a bad idea..
They should be looking at PS4 Hardware, forget about ps3.. It's time has passed..

I agree, with playstation 3 being so limited I wish they would just wait for the ps4/xbox720. I remember playing ff11 back in the day and constantly hearing stuff from SE like "We can not increase inventory due to the ps2 limitations". I really don't want to see that in ff14 ARR. 4-5 years down the road and ARR will be really limited due to the ps3 decision. I have faith in yoshi and I really hope that in the future of ARR like 5-6 years down the road they could still somehow enhance the engine/graphics on the PC version at least to keep up with the times, I really hope they can.

The only limitations I could see are memory which are more issues with the ui, from what I've seen. I'm not so worried about any other issues because the graphics are so well that I can't imagine it getting any better. We even have 3D for the ps3. My only problem with ff11 was the menu based fighting system, graphics, having to buy maps, and lack of mini-maps... ff14 has fixed all of these issues, it is even supposed to work on weaker computers so its nice...

You can still play games online that's not linked with psn, like DCU
