But there is DLC for FFXIII-2, an expansion is just larger scale DLC, or if they really wanted they just use a disk, install the expansion and run it off the latest expansion disk, but I see PS store happening.

All the more reason to abandon any PS3 players at that time. "Just upgrade!"
I think I see why you aren't running a business, if the custom is on PS3 they will stick to it how many companies do you know say "OK these 70 million potential customers don't matter, I want to focus everything on these 4 million people with more money than sense" if people are playing the PS3 version they will continue to support it, whilst supporting a PS4 version as well if the custom is there, as long as they can justify the increased costs with subscriptions they will do this.

I would wager that more HDD-capable PS2's were sold than PS3 units in total. On top of that, there were also the backwards-compatible PS3's, which meant a published PS2 title could be played on both platforms. Indications are that the next PlayStation will not play PS3 games, which can only discourage PS3 publishing once the new system is out.
You are just sounding clueless now if a company can make money from the PS3 they will make games for it, the market for a brand new console is always small, not many people (in the grand scheme of things) can afford them, so they wait for the price to come down, happily playing their PS3 until that time, then they buy a PS4.

You seem to be under the dillusion that all companies say "OMFG ITS NEW WE GOTTA LEAVE THE OLD ONE!!!" It's very likely that the PS3 will continue to be supported for at least 3 years after the PS4 release, it all depends how sales go. For all we know the PS4 could become Sony's Dreamcast, then do you think it would be a good idea to release a PS4 version and forget the PS3?

For a lot of fans, you just opened a can of worms with those 5 words.

Let's pay to see the ending instead of it saying to be continued. Fuck that.

I was talking more about the other small things like costumes, the fact is it's there, and SE is perfectly able to put anything they want on PS store, including expansions for ARR.

Well, first off, I only replied to make that note, not to disturb whatever rant you were on.

Anyways, it has to be approved by Sony. They can't just put on whatever they want on PSN, it doesn't work like that. Secondly, the quote you replied to said nothing of DLC. So how does DLC equate into them putting full-budget current-gen FF games on PSN, as was quoted? It doesn't.

A LOT of DLC is included on Discs already, thats why a lot of them are only 100kb. They are just activation files. Don't get me wrong, plenty of full fledged add-on dlc for games too.

I'm just not sure why people are talking about expansions already. Shit's not even out yet. And I think anyone who has a PS3 and uses PSN would know full well that they can release expansions over PSN. So I'm confused what you two are even arguing about.

Edit: Just want to note, a lot of people are saying about 70 million PS3 users. This number is in no way accurate. A lot of the original model ps3s are dieing. more everyday. These are counted into the PS3's "online" community because their console id is registered on psn/sony enetertainment network. I have 3 dead ones on my account as i speak.

So while the 70 million is probably pretty damn accurate for ps3s sold, I'd wager its way less than that online. 70 million ppl, x 20-30kb for a slow ass psn connection... thats a shit load of bandwidth, even at half the users.

It's about as accurate as WoW having 12 million active subscribers. I'm sure they were talking about raw sales numbers in regards to the PS3.

Afaik, WoW only has that many during expansion releases. not at all times. so that figure isnt exact either probably.

FFFXI has had six "add-ons" so far that were delivered by download, but physical discs are still being pressed for Seekers of Adoulin. An "expansion pack" is something far bigger than "just" an add-on/DLC, something too big to realistically deliver by download to all interested customers.

Besides, you're assuming that PS3 access to PSN will continue indefinitely. Sony's main competitor, Microsoft, published no new downloadable content for the original Xbox after the release of the Xbox 360.

if the custom is on PS3 they will stick to it how many companies do you know say "OK these 70 million potential customers don't matter, I want to focus everything on these 4 million people with more money than sense"
People who buy new consoles by definition have disposable income. Businesses follow the money. If the customers with money didn't abandon aging platforms (and publishers didn't follow them), there would have been no migration to the PS3 (or the PS2, or...) to begin with.

as long as they can justify the increased costs with subscriptions they will do this.
For the umpteenth time: what reason is there to believe that this "tipping point" won't be reached sooner rather than later?

It's very likely that the PS3 will continue to be supported for at least 3 years after the PS4 release,
    PS3 release: 2006
Last FFXI PS2 disc release: 2007
First FFXI disc release with no PS2 disc: 2009

I'd say three years at best, with as little as one.
