I hope history doesn't repeat itself. There was so many things that they wouldn't do in FFXI because of PS2 limitations, they didn't want to be unfair to PS2 users.
Problem is when the PS4 comes out not many people will have them because of it being a new console and all. But PS3 has huge 70+ million userbase, even though it will probably be getting replaced by PS4 later in the year, still has a couple years left where devs will support it with new games. Moving from Cell (PS3) to AMD processor (PS4) won't make for a quick port or anything.
SE said they didn't want to make a FFXI port for PS3 because it would cost them around the same amount of money as a new game, they didn't stand to gain many customers it would be just PS2 users who upgraded to PS3 for the most part.
Not sure if anything at SE has changed to make them want to make a PS4 port of FFXIV when PS4 is out.

SE's stance on PS2 limitations is about as big as a farce as you can get, most of the time a simple "we don't really feel like it would be in our best interest" would have done more than the PS2 limitation lie.I hope history doesn't repeat itself. There was so many things that they wouldn't do in FFXI because of PS2 limitations, they didn't want to be unfair to PS2 users.

I know that, they started adding PC only features like HD font, better title screen, higher resolutions without using a registry editor, and eventually new PC only UI coming in SoA.
I feel as though no actual thought was used when the OP was typing out their initial post...Even a child can give a basic answer: "It's the system I play on currently."
If we're in the mood for stupid questions along these lines:
"PS3 was bound to come out sooner or later. Why did so many people bother buying PS2's?"
"Why play Dynasty Warriors 5 when Dynasty Warriors 6 is eventually going to come out?"
"Why eat now if you're gonna be hungry later?"
Nobody here has played XIV on a PS3 before.
The PS3 has never been and will never be as popular as the PS2 was, and FFXI got three whole expansions before the PS2 had to compete with its own successor. Will any expansions for ARR be published for the PS3?"PS3 was bound to come out sooner or later. Why did so many people bother buying PS2's?"

Thats the whole point, ever since Rapture was announced SE has said that it will be a PS3 title. Everyone who exclusivley plays games on the PS3 and has interest in FFXIV is a whole new branch of the market.
Potential system limitations is a non-issue with FFXIV because of the scalability of the engine and the seperation of development for PC and PS3. Two things that did not exist for FFXI when it hit the system limitations of the PS2. FFXI was designed for PS2 and ported to PC until the development of the PC client that was used to port over to the XBox 360 which wasn't until Wings of the Goddess?

Lol all that link posts is that u've been trolling about black screens possibilities for the PS2 client of FFXI for quite some time now. It's a simple work around, and game crashes are common for even current gen games.
The numbers for dropping support are based on the users. If it was truly a system limitation they wouldn't be bringin it out for PS2 in JP. They never even brought FFXI out for PS2 in EU. The PS2 had continued support through Wings of the Godess (including all the Walk of Echoes), the add-on trilogy, Abyssea, and the Voidwatch/Legion content. The only reason none of that was released as a stand-alone disc-based expansion was because SE never planned on putting out another disc-based expansion for the game until they changed their mind last year. Cause honestly SE didn't think that FFXI was going to remain serviced longer than 8 years.
Real bugs in FFXI were like how people playing on Xbox360 couldn't complete a single Besieged for quite some time. And the only game-breaking errors I ever noticed in FFXi was when it wasn't Vista compatible if people had to upgrade to Vista.

There have never been, and will never be, as many PS3 users as there were PS2 users. "The numbers" for PS3 will never be as good as they were for PS2 at any point in its history.
I have said nothing about "system limitations."If it was truly a system limitation
So that's the metric? "Don't buy into platforms that aren't fully supported from the beginning?" Well, 1.0 was never brought out for the PS3 anywhere, so why should a player get on board (months from) now? They never even brought FFXI out for PS2 in EU.
You don't play FFXI on PS2, do you? PS2 players pretty much can't do anything that involves a cutscene, because they'll get stuck at a black screen instead.Real bugs in FFXI were like how people playing on Xbox360 couldn't complete a single Besieged for quite some time.
And as for the Xbox 360 Besieged/Campaign issues, that was never resolved. The only "resolution" was Besieged becoming much shorter and less popular. That's just another example console players being treated as second-class citizens in S-E MMO's.

Actually I still play on PS2 almost daily and I only hit the black screen on 1 cutscene ever. Andthat's not true for the 360 either, because the original problem was a porting error that would crash the XBox 360 AFTER the combat had completed. You don't play FFXI on PS2, do you?
