I want to give encouragement to our FFXIV Team and toss an [item=3020201]elixir[/item] Yoshi-P's way in the form of compliments from many, likely non-FFXIV, gamers. Their hard work during these past two years is beginning to pay off, turning what was an outright rejection of FFXIV by many into interest, excitement, and desire to play.
Reactions to Alpha Version on MMORPG.com:
"Game looks amazing and thats just low level content. Also really looking forward to the more traditional combat system."
"Watching this video reminds me of FF12 in a good way."
"Doesn't look like any alpha I've ever seen. No debugging messages flying, no animation glitches, no missing sections where the interior isn't finished. Pretty sweet work."
"Looks great to me, especially for alpha!"
"i love how fluid the animations and gameplay looks, Cant wait to play"
"Ditto, animation and environment art are both excellent."
"I'm so excited I can't wait!"
"Yep it looks good."
"This is turning out to look quite good."
On Siliconera:
On Tumblr:"cool, i think i'm getting this at day 1, and scary dungeon bgm like crag of dem [Can I Have It ?] XD"
"definitely going to play this. music sounds awesome"
"this looks great. cant wait to try it."
"It disturbs me how pretty this game is."
"This looks so good. I cannot wait for it to release. They've been doing a lot to make it a better game and that's wonderful. By the way, does anyone know if owning a copy of the original FFXIV will immediately give me A Realm Reborn, or if I have to repurchase it?"
"The Dragoons tanking in this video looks promising! I was hoping classes would be able to perform different roles, instead of just the 'sword-and-board class can tank and only tank'. The game keeps impressing me so far, though!"
"The music and the sound effects strangely remind me of Final Fantasy 12, which is awesome because i loved that game ^_^"
"Glad to see SE improving the game instead of letting it go to waste. It looks really promising."
"Game looks like they sped stuff up a bit. I do hope that the final product retains this zippiness."
On Kotaku:"FFXIV: ARR looks really good actually. Very XIIish, I like it! Don’t know if it will survive with the stigma to the first XIV, but we’ll see."
"So i watched an alpha gameplay video for FFXIV Realm Reborn
It looks really awesome
And its gunna be for PS3 too
I may get this"
I found this comment particularly amusing:"The gameplay looks really promising. Very involving but not too much. Enough to make sure you focus but not so much that you spend unreasonable amounts of energy. Aside from that and looking fantastic, I really hope the class system is top-notch. It's going for something very fluid but yet has definition."
"I'm interested. I like the UI. Always room for change though--especially since it's Alpha. Need moar input."
"It looks pretty good so far, I'm more then likely going to check it out when it debuts."
"Wow, was that a mind flayer? Awesome, I haven't seen that since the old school ffs lol"
"I'll probably give this a shot."
"I'm so excited for this game. XI is really showing its age despite being a good game overall and it's extremely tough to get into now. Hopefully XIV is good enough to keep me subscribed for a little while longer than XI did and I love the effort that Square has put into making this a better game."
Judging by these reactions, which range from comments on music, art direction, graphics, speed of combat, and overall gameplay, the FFXIV Team is certainly doing the right things in their attempts to capture and present the essence of Final Fantasy, all the while trying to meet the demands of a modern MMO. Here's to 2013, and A Realm Reborn. I personally hope it will be a blockbuster year for FFXIV :]"It's too bad that A Realm Reborn couldn't have been reborn as not an MMORPG. A lot of the stuff in here seems like the kind of stuff I'd like to see in a Final Fantasy Game what with having more fantasy with strange races and archers and wizards and shit and less Sci-fi angsty kids with funny names like Lightning, Hope, Snow, etc."
