Which, let's face it, tester focused or not everyone has in mind anyway and is undeniably a driving force.

The only difference is, as you pointed out, is to help the company and do what is outlined in the phases and submit feedback. Aside from that, I guess the main question is, as someone who wants to be let into an early preview and doesn't have the drive to test, what then drives them to want it? Cause I've gotta say, an unfinished game, with blacked out lore, and no progression saved doesn't sound incredibly fun to me nor does it sound like something to be upset over not being apart of.

That's all I'm saying.
I can't speak in terms of other games, but I guess in FFXIV's case, it is hype of the revamp really. Even though people know they are getting only a game in a testing phase, they want to see for themselves how FFXIV 2.0 is a improvement over 1.0.

In terms of other MMO's, I haven't seen such demand to partake in a alpha as this one. Even in WoW, a lot more don't care about testing it's alpha/beta phase of expansions. Mostly because you still have a game to play while waiting. Which is what I think it comes down to, some only play FFXIV and feel deprived of it. Even though you can still technically get on (till the end of this month), just wanting to get back on makes you click in your head "I really want alpha!".

In short, there is a lot of hype of the revamp, and being deprived of FFXIV makes some people want to just play it just for the sake of getting to play something, assuming they are not there to give feedback.
