I consider this a strong possibility, as well. Perhaps whatever was inside of it beforehand fit the lore a little better. "Menphina's Loyal Hound" turned out to be kind of a world-ending pain in the Twelve.

The only thing I can think of is that Jihli misinterpreted her vision. Perhaps it was The Twelve who were to be summoned and she misinterpreted it somehow.
