Pretty solid suggestion.
I don't think stuff like this will go unnoticed, though.
Does anyone know how the system will work as a whole?
I.e. what will the cost of teleportation be?

To be honest, not much is known besides these things:
City-State Aethernets are staying.
Attuned Aetherytes will be reset:Example: In FFXIV: ARR, all players will have unrestricted access to the city-state aethernets, which will render aetherpasses obsolete. Players already in possession of these passes will receive 40,000 gil in compensation (as per the redenomination, 1/10 of the original purchase price). Players who purchased the aetherpasses with company seals will be recompensed in gil.
Good evening!
I know some of you are wondering what is going to happen with your existing teleport locations when ARR is launched. We were able to gather some information and give you the latest scoop!
Aetheryte locations will be completely remapped in 2.0 and they will lose their power as a part of the transition into A Realm Reborn. As a result, aetheryte attunement will be reset systematically and you will not be able to teleport all locations at the launch of ARR.
As for why this is happening to the aetherytes?
It's is actually an interesting part of the storyline!
Look forward to it!
