Why should XIV not have ambitions to move forward? XI was a perfectly sound formula 8 years ago, when both the players and the competition were very different, and developers were still learning what to do with an MMO. Do you think SE isn't capable of advancing the genre?

Well I wouldn't say its about advancing Final Fantasy, more of keeping what should be the same similar. One such thing was the job names and race names, which in FFs past have changed now and again but if its THE SAME RACE/JOB why can't we keep the same name? It's still called 'Final Fantasy' after all, some of it must remain the same to its core. Much like the spells have remained the same for years. What I'm trying to say is SE can't move forward with the FF genre without keeping what is integral (partying/conflict/colored mages/races/etc). To stray from the 8-years mature formula of FF online, would be an utter betrayal.

That said I honestly have no idea how THM and CON fit in with long standing traditions of WHM BLM RDM or even Green Mage or Time Mage. To me this is a direct result of having strayed too much from their FFXI perfectly working formula.

One thing that hasn't been touched on here is what happens after the specialisation is introduced and giving appropriate consideration to the fact that we as a race naturally gravitate to the optimum path/path of least resistance. Anybody who has played any other MMO will almost certainly have experienced this optimum path mentality first hand.

Your average party/event leader will always want the best possible job for the role if they are available, to do otherwise makes no sense as they are deliberately sabotaging their chances of success. If that role is healing then it's WHM specialisation or if it's nuking then its BLM specialisation the only time you would pick anything else is either through a lack of other choices or they are a friend/LS member. So whilst specialisation may not be implemented as mandatory in game and people will be free to choose to no specialise are they not just denying themselves all the spells and abilities that specialisation offers and setting themselves up as second class conjurer?

I feel it is inevitable that once the player base and content matures (everyone is already complaining it is too easy) the player base will demand that players do specialise because the content will be made with the assumption that the party does have specialised classes in it. I can't see a way of allowing the versatility of CON to be maintained once specialisation is introduced without keeping the game it's current face roll state which the player base has already saying it doesn't want.

So what does everybody else think, will the introduction of specialisation effectively (not literally but through peer pressure/lack of invites) force every CON to specialise or not?

This is one of the most put-together first posts I've seen on the boards. Thank you for reigniting my hope that not everyone on here is a dumb@$$.

I agree to an extent. If you take xi as only an example, RDM clearly fits an advanced role of Thaumaturge, while BLM and WHM are obvious directions for CON. I believe a Scholar is very middle-of-the-road between the two, and could probably be chosen by either Thaumaturge, or Conjurer if they want to stay more 'jack-of-all-trades....ish'.

I still lean to the side of Summoner being an advanced role of Conjurer, due to Conjurer being a more traditional mage style class, and the very definition of 'Conjurer' involves 'conjur-ing' things. To conjure, or to bring forth.

But all of that crap is still very dependent on whether classes will just specialize, or if it will simply be a matter of doing quests to unlock all new jobs/classes. Yoshi-p did state that there was upcoming information about a 'job' system.

To finalize with your question though, I think someone that stays a conjurer if they have the option to specialize will be a second thought in comparison to the other two classes/jobs. While I see Conjurer having great solo/duo capabilities, I don't think they would match up to the other two in groups 'with keeping in mind all of the upcoming updates'

    Well,

THM Should be laterally shifted into Red Mage

    CON should be Black Mage

WHM should be a new class IMO, Adding Arcanist as the official support caster.

With the mixing system, you will still be able to make them versatile in your means, but officially you would have:

    WHM: Healer/Support,

BLM: AOE Damage Dealer, Utility Caster (portals etc),

RDM: Hybrid/Debuffer Caster, Rapier/Saber/Sword/Whip in one hand, crozier/scepter in the other; the RDM has always silently been the fanatical caster in the FF series so it would fit right into THM's current story.

SMN: Single Target DD, pet class, most mp efficient etc, give him orbs containing elements which control what summons he can have, kinda like materia or the zodiac crystals.

Arcanist: (Time Mage it should just become): High Support/Debuffer, Utility. Haste? Stop? Slow? etc.

For Now. BLM, WHM and RDM are essential to the FF experience and would be very simple for the dev team to put together before PS3 release.

I surmise the last 2 would be harder to implement and better suitable for an expansion.

Job system from Final fantasy 3, 5, 10-2. This would solve a lot of problems with the naming of classes and make it more Final Fantasy like because all i see in game that is Final Fantasy is Moogles, Chocobos and the odd monster nothing else.

Ok I havent read everything here yet, but I dont agree with the subject. Im sure this has been said as others opinions too but the aspect of both mages being healers/nukes, makes forming a party easier and gives me the choice to have VARIETY in my role in a party, which is awesome....bottom line.
