Amen! ppl are fast at forgetting and for each of them that complains that something got changed there's a hundred that are glad it got changed xDReally, all the good things about "Tanaka's version" that didn't carry over to "Yoshida's version" was because people complained about them. Who was it that got upset that mobs follwed you and got hit by aoes - Players. Who was it that wanted the auto attack cuz stamina was too 'hindering and confusing' - Players. Who was it that said classes had too many skills and didn't have any real specified role started them down their eventual dumbing down - Players.
I would very much like to go back to all those things, but aparently people didn't think "Tanaka's version" was good enough, thats why it got feedbacked into change. So..... Tanaka aparently did nothing right, if it got changed.
Be happy feedback was listened to, or be unhappy feedback was listened too :/
The enemy following thing was just stupid especially if you started in Thanalan cause almost every enemy in the early areas was one that followed you. It gets especially bad when you were trying to XP original Marauder where standing still for too long made all your actions AOE automatically.
If they had limited it to like 1-2 instead of allowing it to get up to 20 enemies at once or severely limited their follow distance I would have been fine with it.
As I recall, it was the battle designer's choice to impose more limits and auto-attack so that creating battle content was easier. Something along the lines of, "with the way things currently are, creating challenging content is near impossible".Who was it that said classes had too many skills and didn't have any real specified role started them down their eventual dumbing down - Players.
or something like that.
So no, not the players' choice. But most of us applauded it.
No, classes having too many skills and not having any definition came from players first, so was auto attack. Just about every change to the original game systems that were made came from threads buried under back to probably page 500 and beyond by now of general discussion. As I recall, it was the battle designer's choice to impose more limits and auto-attack so that creating battle content was easier. It was all due to one question in the first major players poll : "Would we be ok with drastic changes made to Eorzia" or something along that line.

Class didn't have too many skills they had too many useless skills that's different. There was no need for Defender 1 and 2 and provoke 1 and 2.No, classes having too many skills and not having any definition came from players first, so was auto attack. We did have choices, but ultimately it was Yoshi's directions that had the last say. And he didn't always listen to the forums. Like how "everyone" was against jumping. No, classes having too many skills and not having any definition came from players first, so was auto attack. It's kinda short-sighted to make such a blanket statement and place all blame for whatever's 'wrong' with the game on "the players". But I guess if you feel like you want to stand out as the guy who, "was against this all along! You should've listened to me but did you all? Nooooooo you just wanted your happy-go-lucky-dappy-and-ducky game! Thanks for ruining my experience! YOU ALL SUCK", then please go right ahead. I'm sure SE will listen and give an appropriate response.
You may think its a short sighted statement, but its a true statement. People just aren't careful what they wish for. It wasn't just one person saying 'this should be like this', it was a collection of all feedback from all language forums and polls that became what we have now. We pushed them into that direction through feedback. We did have choices, but ultimately it was Yoshi's directions that had the last say. And he didn't always listen to the forums. Like how "everyone" was against jumping.

While I do enjoy the fact that they did listen to the players in remaking the game, I also recall a certain post by Yoshi saying many of his decisions were based on creating a game that wasn't just for those currently playing. He wanted to make a game that would attract and bring back people who aren't currently playing and/or interested.
We did have some say. But we're not the Producer. You give these forums way too much credit.
