Now...I am not trying to start anything..simply stating my opinion and nothing more! >.>Different isn't always a good thing. Every game as something that separates them from the rest, but the core things that make up a MMO, (Basic Core structure) is more of a Necessity.
It is funny you mention that. The core things that make up a MMO. FFXIV does not even have the most basic one...which is being able to play with a diverse amount of players. Yes we can play with anyone..but most PUG's are horrible. It is rare to find a decent pug. And why is that? Wellllll
Most people, if they want to accomplish anything are forced to play in little cliques...because of the reason I stated earlier. Because of PLing and super fast leveling...hardly anyone knows how to play their job end game which is why most PUG's suck. Until they fix this it probably will not ever feel like a MMO to me. :/
I guess its not SE fault that people can't play...but it is their fault for making leveling so easy that no one has to take the time to become a master at their job.
No but I did often make friends with people after I have played with them not just once, but multiple times. If I see a person sharing the same interests as I do, farming, world exploration, party play.
Then yeah they often end up finding their way into my Linkshell or Friends list. Content finder wont do that for you because your not playing with your server, you wont see a large group of people you meet outside those instanced dungeons, you don't see those people in the rest of the world.
It's hard to befriend someone when your too busy focusing lazer right on instanced raids, hell you don't usually got much of a chance to even talk if your doing things properly. So yeah I find seeing people on my server in the open world far better than finding them through a list.
Maybe you don't that's your perogative but don't tell me how I should fell about how the game evolves. Your entitled to your opinion as much as I am to mine, I don't "Look" for friends in a MMO I just naturally gravitate towards people who share my interests within the game and want to do more than just knock out instanced raids and quests.
Agree that cross-server matchmaking is pretty terrible, but I'd like to think that it'd help the community more if you could match-make on your current server. I hated randoms in WoW where people would just split mid-way through an instance.
If you want a better feeling of immersion, how about making quest lines lead to instanced dungeons? That was something Blizzard did extremely well with WoW, especially before Cataclysm; quests would eventually lead you into dungeons... Deadmines for instance....
There are right and wrong ways to add content, I have faith that the devs are adding a unique style to this.
It's not the same thing. What you SHOULD be comparing it to is Leve Quests...those are the exact same thing, you get a throwaway story and then your objectives, go back for massive xp/money/item reward (quest grind) or go back to crystal/counter for more leves.
Those are the same systems. Monster grinding for example is different as you're not doing it for the purpose of a throwaway story, you're doing it either to level, get materials for crafting or some other reason depending on game specific mechanics, for example in XI you'd do it for magian trials, i.e get 250 kill shots on arcana monsters.
/sarcasm on 10 dodos Randomly or 10 dodo Questing isn't equal? Alrighty then! /sarcasm offIt's not the same thing. But how is that any better than a throwaway story? How is it any less tedious? Killing stuff randomly has zero story behind it. at least with questing you have "somewhat" of a story, I know it's not major or anything important, but it is still a story nevertheless. Don't get me wrong I love killing random things, but I love to have questing along with it. Which again is why I play Aion. The sense of helping people out in the game, just makes my character feels like I did something for someone, and that I can help more people along the way.
