It's the MMO genre. Look at every FPS, looks at every fighting game. They play similar because that's how that genre is played. WoW wasn't the first MMO to have these elements. It's just what MMOs are. The ignorance is palpable in this thread. Christ.
And guess what, I don't play those games that don't try something different, I like originality, I get that you have to have some core things with each game, but why do the same thing that EVERYONE does. Seriously, quest grinding, mob grinding, instances(I don't know one mmo without an instance). Raise the bar a little bit ya? That's all I'm asking for.

Different isn't always a good thing. Every game as something that separates them from the rest, but the core things that make up a MMO, (Basic Core structure) is more of a Necessity. Storyline/Content/Music etc those things are the topics that "Should" be different. If they aren't different "then" I can say "wow this is a clone of X MMO".

I just feel like people misinterpret the term "clone". Somethings need to be "the same" or else it can fail miserably. If you try to invent something, you have to make sure it 100% works on the playing field it can't be a decimal off, or else you could lose millions of dollars on a possible failure.
