    the whistle animation for chocobo was also missing in the version at Gamescom.. and now was inside the game afterwards.

    what does it tell us? its work in progress, as they mentioned also hundred times "we are sorry to show an early version like that, first we did not wanted to show it (better for them they did)" i am sure that you will get back your "stop walking" animation and more details while running.


    its so obvious that these are unfinished animations, like others are just spaceholders or not inside yet.. (like calling your chocobo which is inside now). i play MMorpgs since 2001 and have seen so many alphaversions or even pre-alpha.


    Dark Age of Camelot as an example... Alpha/pre-alpha status (mostly for concepts and gameplay design):

    FFXIV ARR is a complete rebuilt of the game with a new engine and some new animations.

    are you really thinking that the team for animations is sleeping till beta phase?
    the game is not even in alpha testing phase yet.
    people will have the chance to give feedback in alpha and beta as well.


    there was even no chocobo animation in the very early phase at gamescom.
    So calm down. Its okay if you are worried about it. but i am really sure these animations are not finished yet (as they said many things are in early phase). so go ahead and give your feedback. first of all i disliked the headline very much "ARR = downgrade" which is a slap into the developers faces for investing so much time in redesigning the whole game (Gridania etc.)

    i respec their hard work and i am graceful for that.

    Well i cant really tell you if i'm going to miss these "tiny" animations till i played it. Because i cant remember even one mmorpg/rpg who has a stoping animation like that (no drama if you ask me)

    ok its these little things that make a game some kind of special. but i also think its not the most important part. since i think the walking animation itself was not really much different to what we have now (except the stop movement and back walking).. and other things are also so much better than what we have now.

    They're not tiny. If the running animation of a character was made out of 5 parts...

    1) Gaining momentum
    2) Actual running
    3) Inertia on stopping
    4) Leaning left and right
    5) Changing direction more than 90 degrees

    Now it only has 1 part, the actual running.

    That's why they were so great, setting this game apart from others.

    And that's why we're going to miss them. At least 80% of the game-time in an MMO is watching a character run. Even between fights, you run. Having to look at a character that moves so stiff is a turn off for many.

    You might not be so bothered now, because the majority of other MMO's don't have movement animation of such quality, but the truth is that the animation model that they intend to use for 2.0 is already outdated. GW2 is not suppose to be the epitome of innovation when it comes to animation and immersion, and yet its movement animation includes things like inertia.

    So in terms of movement animation, we went from FFXIV 1.0 >>>>>> GW2 to GW2 > FFXIV 2.0

    FFXIV is suppose to be incredibly future-proof, and having an already outdated movement animation is, in my opinion, detrimental to the game.

    i get what your saying but most people aren't taking this as a pre alpha excuse because it was confirmed that it was a decision to take out these animations. and what got me most worried is that even though there is this huge thread about it and the smaller other thread about this, the dev team or community reps have not responded.

    if it was simply something like "its not implemented yet because its still early stages" then someone would have been able to tell us easily and just left a quick
    " hey guys sorry your all disappointed with the lack of animations but the team does have it scheduled to implement these back into the game but because of time and other tasks they were not able to be in the early gameplay videos you have all seen, but they are scheduled to be in before release so please dont worry"

    but because they haven't said anything like this it tells me that this was not planned to come back and they are taking the time to give us a decision about whether to implement these back based on the schedule, and of course that takes along time to review. that's just my assumption but at the very least it would not take a huge amount of time to tell us if it was just a misunderstanding, which means its not

    Trying to keep up with this thread is hard...

    Tonkra, after reading all your raging posts, finally you've seemed to calm down. It's too bad that they already stated that the start/stop/lean animations are deliberately taken out. So you're tired claim of "it's pre-alpha" (which has been stated a million times in this thread already) does not apply. When SE says they are taken out, that literally means they chose to keep them out permanently. Unless they state otherwise, its safe to assume that they aren't going to be in the final product either, since it was a conscious decision on their part. I know you really want to win an argument here, but you're in the wrong thread.

    Also, I agree that the title of this thread is misleading and too general. Nemy has already stated that it was a mistake naming the thread as it is because she doesn't believe ARR to be a complete downgrade. Many of us core posters who have followed this thread from inception agree that ARR is gorgeous and we appreciate the hard work SE has put into the game, but that the animations for stop/start look incomplete compared to what we are used to after playing FFXIV 1.xx, as well as other new MMO's like Guild Wars 2.
