Or use your brain and know that the level 5 version of that monster is agressive...it would logically follow that...
Or if it's the only one of it's kind, generally assume that it wants to eat your face and it's not going to shake your hand.

you are out of the subjet we are talking about dying to see if a new , high level only ennemy detect you with sound or vision
not a monster that you could know it otherwise or a monster that you could killed as solo .
So what do you expect a Malboro is going to do? These things are great for people who like to actually adventure in a game. The unknown can be a great tool to make the world feel much more deep.
XI did it well, not too many people were suprised as to what something agrod to a few minutes after it was released, because people went and found that shit out.
Giving credit where credit is due, FFXI wasn't the entity doing it well, the fansites and users who contributed to them were the ones who did all the work, the way I see options like this more about shifting the information's location, and hey, there's still the option to turn it off if you'd like to do it the old fashioned way.
I literally lol'ed with that last statement.
