ARC -> Archer.
Arcanist will likely be ACN.

Probably but you get the drift.
Aside from the limit break system, and the fact that you don't need tp to use weapon skills. It all looks pretty much the same to me from the game play footage I've seen. Even if they changed every skill in the game it seems to me like their efforts would be better spent on tossing the class system our and adding some of the entirely unique and traditional jobs to the game.
I just don't get what it's all for. The class system was the original design teams concept, and it was not well received. Then they decided to add jobs, but they kept the class system around for what reason? I think it was to keep people who were playing the game and liked the class system happy too, but it's just a crappy system imo and a waste of time/effort when they could be working on adding more new jobs.

Basing your arguments on a pre alpha gameplay video. I see."It all looks pretty much the same to me from the game play footage I've seen."

It was stated long, long, long time ago the reason why the classes were kept along with jobs. Time and time again the usefulness of classes has been proven. You just choose to not "understand" it and "see" the reason why they are there.
Oh? And why was that? And whats this usefulness that you speak of? Darnus (hard)? lolBasing your arguments on a pre alpha gameplay video. I see.

The reason I do not "understand" is because the answer to those questions do not exist. I do however understand how ridiculous it is when people like you get all butt hurt when someone even passively objects to some of the content in this game.

Classes are now designed around solo play lets say a DRG is soloing some tough mobs, the only heal they have is Second Wind and life surge (latter doesn't keep hp up much) so the mobs you can solo is very limited, whereas a LNC would be able to use Sentinel, Second Wind, Cure, Stoneskin, Protect, Bloodbath (is it still around?) etc so they will survive longer, DRG in a party doesn't need these because the WHM covers healing. I remember when everyone was crying about jobs because "things like Ifrit will be hard without Sentinel, it might be better going as classes for it".Oh? And why was that? But yeah classes solo have a lot more survivability than jobs, that is the point of keeping them.
I've never had to switch to a class to solo and I've leveled everything. Even if you could switch to your lnc, throw on the skills you mentioned, and solo some crazy hard stuff *which as far as I know isn't the case*; I still wouldn't support the class system. You could just find ways to exploit the job system for soloing hnms instead, like we did with rdm or nin/dnc in FFXI. Unless your soloing level 61 vanguards on your LNC or something who cares. Drg works fine for soloing normal mobs for the occasions that you actually need to solo stuff.
Long story short: FFXIs job system was better.

Yes because we all know this terribly broken game we are now playing is how it will stay forever, they planned the job system more around ARR, ARR could very well have things jobs have a hard time soloing but classes are a lot more efficiant.I've never had to switch to a class to solo and I've leveled everything. Just sayin'.

Also you may hardly have to solo, but there are people who prefer to solo than party, think of the BST from FFXI, if you enjoyed solo play you leveled it, I would ask people "why should I level BST" I would get told "its the best solo job" so obviously people choose to solo over party when they can, this is the point of it all and thinking ahead to ARR.

I personally don't care for the class system and wouldn't cry if it went away. There are far less situations that you'd use classes for than jobs.
Would probably take quite a bit of effort. Each of the jobs have a pre-requisite quest to unlock them, so you'd have to have x amount (or all) of the jobs available from the start with the rest being unlocked through quests around 25-30, like the advanced jobs in FFXI. The rest of the mechanics could stay the same; learn the former class abilities and traits at their established levels, and do the job quests for stronger abilities and AF equipment.
Obviously people with all 50s won't be affected by this, but this would affect newer players.
Doing this would make it easier to introduce new jobs like Dark Knight where their identity won't suffer being forced to be tied to a brand new class or an existing one. (like they've mentioned they want to try to do)
If they would just balance the content around the abilities that each job can have available, classes wouldn't be necessary in this respect. I'm not saying things need to be made easier, but without having a THM in the Darnus fight, there's no way a group of full jobs can survive without having previously farmed lunar curtains.
I think classes just create an identity crisis for their job counterparts. It would be way easier if they just scrapped classes and introduced jobs on their own, but I think the dev team is too invested in the armory system right now. We probably won't see any radical changes to its core until another expansion, if ever at all.
