Is Final Fantasy XI Still A Thing?

I would want to get back into it just for this
especially since geomancer is being released, gosh I've waited so long.

Xbox 360 is a console from 2005 which is still quite powerful -- PS2 is a console designed in 1998 which is less power than probably something you can pick up in a dollar store these days.

Since we're talking about this subject, i'm strongly considering buying FFXI to play while XIV is down. Heck, I almost bought it a few hours ago, but gave up =P.

Thing is that I have 4 hours experience with it, tops. How hard would it be to, at the very least, play thru the main storylines, not counting abyssea, as a completely new player to the game?

There's a lot of waiting after JP midnight to progress the story after certain missions, (most noticeably in ToAU) a lot of running around, and a lot of things needed to stand a chance at soloing the storyline missions. (subjob quests, limit break quests, etc.) Because of FoV, abyssea, things like that though, it's not really, really bad. If you've only had 4 hours on the game in general, I'd definitely recommend doing it. XI's a rare game, the slogging around makes what you do feel that much more worthwhile.

Something nobody ever wants to deal with. I hate when I forget to change the settings from where it disconnects after 20 mins to never.

Download, walk away, 20 mins later it cancles, come back 5 hours later to find it disconnected FML
