What a joke. Something that doesn't need to be addressed will be looked into. Seriously the looting is fine as it is now and there are more important thing to fix than this right now. Seriously, are you guys are this much of pampered people? Just get the stuff and trade it once the party is done. Passing an item you don't want will require you to pass that item every freaking time it lands in a master loot as in XI if the person you party with doesn't loot on it, and will require the person that want the item in the loot to loot for it every time. Now just get all and trade once it's done. If you want to make the system greedy-proof because some greedo doesn't give stuff at the end, just don't party with the greedos. End of the story.

The only real issue will be later for HNM drops, but this could/can be easily fixed by implanting a company/guild loot system.

I agree that the looting system is certainly not one of the most important thing to fix, but I disagree when you say it doesn't need to be addressed.

Currently the looting system is totally unintuitive (having to open a window to loot, when you could do it in a single click, seriously?) and doesn't allow players not interested in some loots to give them fairly to the rest of the group (you can't give back randomly to whoever need the loot). Those two points are, in my opinion, a must have for a group-friendly MMO.

Considering that nearly every MMO on the market looting system verifies these properties, maybe my opinion is shared by a fair number of players.

lmao either way you'd still have to open a window to loot or pass and if somebody is not interested in the loot, he can still ask who needs <whatever dropped in their inventory> and TRADE at the end of the party. That make this person be noticed by other party members as not being an ass/greedy and somebody friendly.

A loot system like there was in XI would just make greedo happier as they'd make a party sneakily set it so they get all the drop at some point. Or, somebody not interested in a loot pass it without anyone noticing and people that don't really bother/care to look at the loot window think that they magically get all the drops because they're so damn good and l33t. Already seen -- been there done that factor.

    then I re-read some posts..
Farming parties with people changing the loot every couple of minutes. There are RMT posting and requesting features on this board? In years of playing FFXI, I have never heard of such parties besides done by RMT.

The only real issue with the current loot system will be with HNM... or instanced dungeons as I read they would add such content. That is the only real issue.
Right now everyone has his loot but at the same time is still able to pass an item if needed. If more that just one item, there's always the TRADE system. Once the party is done, trade to the person who wanted the items and make a new friend if that person wasn't already a friend before.

Why not just calculate loot by the character instead of by the mob/party? You help bring down a mob in a party, the loot you get would be the same as what you'd get if you brought something down solo.

Uh? In every MMO I know, the window is popping automatically in a corner of your screen. If you don't do anything about it, it's an auto-pass. Having to do more than a single click is substandard.

I have never played FF11, but if you had to click more than one to decide whether you wanted an item or not, then yes, it was substandard too. But it's ok, we are not discussing improvement for FF11, but for FF14 here.

and if somebody is not interested in the loot, he can still ask who needs <whatever dropped in their inventory> and TRADE at the end of the party.
Not really. In FF14 during a leve or a behest, you I end up with a load of crafting materials you may not care for. I certainly don't want to go through the hassle of asking who want them, having to divide them evenly and trade/give them to the party members who need them. So I basically vendor them all.

If someone ask me for a specific item I'll gladly give him, but that's it. I can't imagine doing better with a dozen of unknown items in my inventory in a (possibly not even speaking english) PuG. Asking for every item that drops if someone need it with the auto-translator? Sorry, I don't want to bother my group like that.

That's why we need a more intuitive and easy to use loot-system.

The only real issue with the current loot system will be with HNM... or instanced dungeons as I read they would add such content. That is the only real issue.
The inventory space and the crafting materials that keep dropping all the time are an issue. Really. Maybe after a while you don't care, but for the new player who started, or the casual who only play once in a blue moon, it's really annoying. Particularly if he is used to a more standard single-click system, which is the case of the majority of the MMO population.

Of course this issue is not an important one in comparison with, for instance, the current end-game content, but still an issue. And discussing the looting system is the whole point of this thread.

Really? Two people, who focus on different crafts, go out to fight mobs that drop a particular item for something one of them wants to make. Naturally, they will not just get only that one item. They will doubtless pick up other things. Likely, things they don't want or need, but the other person helping them wants, and vice versa. You telling me you've never heard of people helping each other out, and splitting the rest of the loot based on who will actually use it? Just for fun, you might want to think about things like this before you go throwing RMT accusations around.

You mean the trade system that is unbearably slow and only allows you to trade four items at a time? The trade system that actually takes LONGER to use then passing items from loot when you actually get them? Maybe, if the trading issues were fixed, this could possibly be an option. But right now? No chance. If I'm fighting a mob with somebody else that's dropping feathers and sinews left and right that I don't want, I certainly don't want to spend a good chunk of time later playing the time-consuming trade game if I don't have to.

I agree. As things stand right now, there really isnt too much that players would even want to roll for. We need to have battle/party/boss/story/dungeon content first, and even then, have that content reward players with rare weapons/armor/crafting material/items that would encourage the need for rolling/lotting.

Not at the moment. Thats another reason why I brought up the point in a suggestion topic to lower the overall ranks required for the current missions. That way, players can get to the meat of the story faster, and once more missions and bosses are added, lower/mid rank players will be able to roll right into them while higher ranks will have access to several missions in a row.
