    when i was able too all i wore was my af sorry I loved my rdm outfit in 11 and the hat the only time i would change was weapons occassionally like to the apollo staff to heal and that's it mainly i kept my sword on me sometimes a club since they didn't like me playing stab at the mob unless there was a pl involved..... and the pluto's staff when resting that's when i would put on vermy cloak to and use a ginger cookie when needed that is

    A little late to try and change RDM from the role it took on years ago. Better to leave it what it is and come out with something new and better. Would be like trying to change Ninja from being a tank class out of the blue because it was never intentionally meant to be a tank class, it was supposed to be a support/DD. Instead the players made it a tank utilizing utsusumei

My thoughts were, wouldn't it show i was more proficient if i could do fight as well as keep everyone refreshed and the mob debuffed all at the same time. multitasking is fun ya know.
    The reason I always point the finger to design was because the magic and melee sides of RDM never complimented each other mechanics wise. They were two separate planets, instead. The way gear and stat scaling worked in XI did nothing to help.

    On a personal note, I found the whole refresh thing demeaning. For one because a guy with sword and magic shouldn't be playing support bot (by the way, having buffs that happen to benefit the party is VERY different from being invited solely to buff people). For two because it belittled the versatility of the job for the sake of giving it a niche. For three because it tried to sweep the job's issues under the rug due to inflated value thanks to refresh (trust me, if Dark Knights had been given Refresh instead of RDM, they would have become the "gravy train to level cap" job instead).

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
    Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)

    Yeah but even with the refresh spell if people weren't asinine about rdm's being support roles only then we would have been able to play how we wanted to which was whack a mob with a sword and cast magic at the same time. I didn't mind having refresh and I could have used it on the people who needed it WHILE i was auto attacking. It wouldn't really have been that hard to do as well as throw out an extra cure here and there when needed. You're also forgetting they demeaned us even more by saying hey since you have refresh and convert you get to be white mages after a certain level. you can't nuke anymore you can't debuff just keep the party healed. >.<

    the problem with rdm was that it was too broad it could buff,debuff,heal,nuke, dd a lil. once ppl found if was good at doing one or two things they reduced its role to healing, buffing etc for thier convience and what they saw fit. in thoery and in fantasy rdm is a cool/good idea but in reality is doesn't work out like intented exaclty what happened in xi will happen in xiv if is given them same broad set of skills and roles, ppl will find out what works best and then force rdm to play one maybe two set ways. even if SE cloned rdm from xi and put it in xiv but without refresh or convert ppl will find a role for it and force ppl to play that way, say for example it had very good debuff actions ppl would turn it basically into a green mage.

    Aye that was a big issue in FFXI, best thing for them to do in implementing RDM is to focus/combine their roles in a manner that complement's each other similar to what me and a few others have already done in this thread I started some time ago.
