In most games, pressing the ESC key usually cancels things or backs you out of menus or dialogues. Or if you're not doing anything, it brings up the menu.
Couldn't you just have the spell stayed queued up a few seconds after the enemy dies so you could redirect it? Target dies, you can recast same spell as an instant as long as you haven't moved.
