That bolded part? That's exactly what linkshells are.

I agree they (and the game) shouldn't be part-time jobs. But saying you don't want LSes to beg you to join, and saying they shouldn't be exclusive clubs, what are you thinking that you're trying to say here? LSes will only let people join that they want to join. That's the whole point. You don't like how a certain LS runs things? Don't join them. Don't like how any LS runs things? Make your own. Or, whatever. The point is to find or make a group that suits your pace. If your ideas are reasonable, they may pan out. I made my own LS in FF11, because I was sick of groups that played favorites (which, contrary to what you said in the OP, not everyone does - just a heads up). It ended up being successful. Who knew?

Believe it or not, a lot of folks don't want to play with a bunch of randoms who are completely ridiculous. I play with a lot of idiots I get paired up with from shout groups for various events. Should I feel compelled to get them into my LS so they can enjoy all the sweet content? Um, no. I join shout groups when I'm prepared for a terribad experience. I don't need a bunch of idiots ruining my fun time in LS chat whenever I log on. Yeah, that's right. LSes aren't here to serve you, bro. They are groups, with their own agendas. You don't like it? Too bad, I guess. Just because someone has an LS doesn't make it their job to invite everyone on the server, teach them how to play, suffer through their idiocy, etc. You seriously think they should? One can only hope you're trolling us, because the alternative is very depressing indeed.

You know, Squiggles, this is a pretty small game, population-wise. If you make a name for yourself by helping those in need, and being good-natured instead of pissing and moaning, people will ask you to join their LS. It doesn't take much to build a reputation in this game, either positively or negatively.

this is 90% of this tiny, underpopulated, self serving community though. i dont get how people are reading into this as "i think i should be accepted anywhere and everywhere because i say so." because that is far from the point.

this is the only series of games (xi included) where members have to jump how high a leader says in order to get any kind of social interaction that i've ever played. and for an incredibly socially based game, it's quite absurd. it's bad enough there isnt some sort of cross server LFG finder for content to get help with fights or dungeons you need/want, the fact i have to kowtow to some ridiculous application process, and regulations just to play a game based off a horrible community hierarchy is ridiculous.

There are plenty of shells you can join without apps providing you have good reputation and well good playing skill, EG included. apps are just a formal way of knowing who you are.

I guess I'm either not seeing your point, or I disagree with it. Anything you could possibly want to do (other than Garuda), you can fairly easily join or spin up a shout group in Ul'dah for. I sometimes help randoms with their job quests, join random Hamlets or Moogles, whatever.

Also, not every LS has a high bar of entry. Some folks will just give a pearl to whoever! You're most likely to find that with social LSes. Not that there's a huge difference between a social LS and whatever a "hardcore endgame LS" would be right now, since there's zero legitimate content that uses more than a single PT at present.

Another thing! I can't imagine why you're confused that folks would make comments about you wanting every LS to beg you to join, because you explicitly said that you don't think LSes should be exclusive clubs. If LSes aren't exclusive clubs, that means anyone can join, with no bar of entry. Do you not see that?

Btw, regarding your OP and folks only wanting certain classes... There are non-elitist potential reasons for such desires, just so you know. For example, say your LS has 10 people. 5 of them are PLDs, and PLD only. Are you going to invite more PLDs? Probably not. Is it because you're elitist, or because you actually want to be able to do anything and/or because you want 1 or more of these PLDs to ever get to play with you like ever?
