Based on his latest post it's all tied to his one SE account. Without a token that can definitely flag it for suspicious activity due to so many logins onto one singular SE account under 1 billing info.

It's not strange for someone to do that, just you're not supposed to be sharing accounts per terms of use which is why it can't be surprising if it gets locked without a token.

As much as one may not want to get it..just have to break down and get it if you want the lockouts to end.

Based upon recent suspicious activity, we have identified that your account may potentially be at risk. For your protection, we have temporarily suspended login access to this account.
Instructions for lifting this restriction have been sent to the email address registered to your Square Enix Account.
For more information about the login restriction, please refer to the following page:

This is absolutely inexcusable. I have dealt with this for the 3rd time. It's been hours and I've not received an email on how to reactivate my account. I went to the link and reset my password, but nothing has changed, I still cannot get in.

And I can not and will not use a security token. I have 5 accounts, myself, gf, 2 kids, and other friend. There's absolutely no reason why I should be forced to use a token. All accounts are accessed from in my home with the same external ip. I'm really pissed off about this crap.
Keeping in mind I haven't read any posts in this thread so your question may have already been answered.

Basically it's a security measure they implemented that sets up a red flag every time your account accesses the SE servers from a new/different IP/MAC address as a just in case measure the computer has been stolen or your account info has been compromised. I had a similar issue when I moved to Alabama back in May and when I took my computer over to my mother in laws, all I had to do was reset my PW and after the 2nd or 3rd time I went back and forth from home and my mother in laws it stopped asking me.

there system lock outs are IP driven, just like every other company.

there's are several reason most don't block/ban by mac addresses. its easier to spoof mac than ip, some cable company's and Satellite net providers still allocate MAC @ the Node. Hotels use Massive Hubs Banning/blocking the mac of the hub bans/blocks every one in the hotel, same for Companies and schools.

in short MAC bans/blocks can have a wider effect than IP's which are always One per machine, unless your running under NAT.

If it's ip driven then there's no reason to lock me out, since i was logged in on my account, then i logged in with my laptop and got locked out moments after I logged in with my main. I closed down and re-opened to see if i could get in on my main computer and bam, no good.

And for the record, I have 4 CE's and one standard. So I have 4 security tokens already. I had one in use for a while, but after it getting handed off a hundred times, you never know who had it last, and so on, it became more of a hassle than it was worth, by far. I'm not worried about my account being compromised, everyone handling login credentials either only ever plays the game exclusively, no web or otherwise, or they know not to give out login and password information.

Yes you can. Your Token is associated with your Account Management. I use the same token for 2 accounts on FFXI and my FFXIV account.

If you check I think that you will find that your laptop uses 1 IP address and your PC uses another. Just the way it works. SE instituted this policy due to the number of accounts being hacked on FFXI by people stripping them and selling the account and items for money to unscupules RMTs. You say you have 4 tokens. I would recommend the you deregister your old 1 and register one of the new 1 and use it exclussively yourself. This should take care of all accounts linked together under the Account Management system. As I have said I have been using the same token since they were first introduced by SE for 2 accounts on FFXI and 1 account for FFXIV

You can link it to multiple FFXIV/POL accounts, but only to one SE account. Ergo anything linked to your SE account is linked to the same token, and once you unlink it, the token's done - there's no reusing it.

Everyone behind the same modem has the same external IP address, even if you had a million connections behind that single modem - every single one would be flagged as part of the same IP address. He should talk to his ISP if they use dynamic or static IP setups, cause SE's system is intended to flag anyone based on IP change, as Mac addresses can be easily duped.

That said, the guy's just complaining about something that's how things ought to be more often. (Never mind the fact he's complaining about never receiving an automated email, which he should try looking for again and then reapplying for it if he doesn't find it!)
