Yes, voice acting is nice, makes CS and other S's much more enjoyable. That's why I think its best to keep the Main storyline voice acted an leave the rest to text.

    Pretty much I want, quality>quantity.

What do you guys think? please give your comment, hate, opinions, and generic rokien comment.

Also I would like to see random talking on the streets as I walk by npcs(don't really care about quality here, more of an atmosphere thing).

    Good news from an interview!

"MP : Today, a lot of MMO are using voice over and cutscenes in their quests, even in small quests, what about Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 ?

Yoshida : For the main quests and the main scenario, we will going to have full voice over, not only in English but in French, German and Japanese as well. However, we have a concept not to voice over the general quests. The reason we decided not to voice the normal quests is because we believe having more quests is the most important thing; if we want to have an update every two months, and let's say, we add 200 quests, and if we want to have voices in four languages over these 200 quests, it's going to take four months to do the voice over. Rather than spending time in voicing these quests, we wanted to keep adding more small quests but we will make sure the main story line will have full voice over."
Personally I wish the full game had voice acting with subtitles. With the option to turn the voices or subs off. Hell I wouldn't mind Japanese voices with English subs. One of the biggest disappointments for me in XIV so far is no voice acting, you get this epic CG with sound effects then characters walk up and start tal...typing. I do agree that there needs to be a certain quality to the voices but that goes without even saying. SE does great with their choice of voice actors for all FF titles I have played with voice overs so far. I also watch a ton of Anime and when I do choose to watch a dub it has to have perfect or near perfection voices or I won't watch it in English. So Quality over quantity is a good point to make, though I personally hope for a mass quantity of great quality voice overs.

P.S. I think this is the first time I have every semi agreed with you on anything Rokien. I think you are starting to make babysteps towards a Rokien 2.0 a version of Rokien that people will actually like.

I think voice acting for main quests and for the class quests (if they still exist) is all thats needed. Personally while I wouldn't mind everything to be voice acted, I understand that right now SE cant really tackle all that and also be able to make the voice acting meaningful. I certainly don't want voice acting for the sake of voice acting as half assed voice acting would add nothing to the game and would more than likely be annoying. I want any type of voice acting in this game to match the character/situation. In other words, I want it to add depth to the character and by doing make the world feel alive and interesting.

I think voice acting in games is just a waste of time and resources, but I won't make a fuss when it appears.

I have not read but maybe one or two sentences in any story line in this game because I just can't get into it. If it had voices for CS's I would be all over it. Sure you can say well older FF didn't have it or need, key word there is "older" and with the new standard people expected voice acting for CS especially when they originally said they was going to implement it. It is really hard for me to enjoy a wall of text when playing a video game anymore unless it is a single player rpg that is fashioned after old school rpgs. Then I'm not bother by it, because I expect there to be no voice overs.

Sometimes, incidental voice acting goes too far (see: every battle in Xenoblade Chronicles).

One thing I was glad to see from Yoshi-P's interview is that we'll have the option to switch to JP voices in 2.0. I hope we can do that in the upcoming FFX re-release.

there are voice overs in cut scenes for the 3 Starter Quests and the 3 City State Quests, but it would seem cut scenes were dropped in favor of in game renders during the Echo related quests.

You may be right on this because I can't remember the first 3 quests, lol. Hadn't done that stuff since first month after the launch. Though they should have stuck with it, especially when they did the new Garlean attack stuff and the judge looking dudes came out. They should have atleast had voice overs, I was so excited and even then expecting to hear some voices and then a wall of text slapped me like a sledge hammer.

I'd rather have more cutscenes and less VO. Anything but just flavor boxes please.

It's not a big deal and it's just an addition , nothing else.

Naoki Yoshida is right it's time consuming and as a part of it , I don't want to reinstall the game with 30GB and more..

It is all in the new interview..

MP : Today, a lot of MMO are using voice over and cutscenes in their quests, even in small quests, what about Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 ?

Yoshida : For the main quests and the main scenario, we will going to have full voice over, not only in English but in French, German and Japanese as well. However, we have a concept not to voice over the general quests. The reason we decided not to voice the normal quests is because we believe having more quests is the most important thing; if we want to have an update every two months, and let's say, we add 200 quests, and if we want to have voices in four languages over these 200 quests, it's going to take four months to do the voice over. Rather than spending time in voicing these quests, we wanted to keep adding more small quests but we will make sure the main story line will have full voice over.

MP : Can we choose the voice language in the options?

    Yoshida : Yes you can.

We had to make a choice, do you prefer having 10 quests with a four-language voice over or 200 quests in each version update? Most likely, you will want the 200 quests.

so main scenario, main quests -> voice over

normal silly quests -> no voice over.

full voice over doesnt make it better.. see the movie... eh sorry look at the Game SWTOR...

NO, just no... for what? these story missions/cutscenes WONT be inside anymore after 2.0.
you want them to voice over missions which wont last longer than some months within the game? they will be just thrown away in some months.

thats the only reason why the grand company missions have no voice over.. and well it would also delay the release of the urgent content patches.

HERE (sounds a bit like darth vader haha^)

you can hear at least the voice of the red "judge" (final old story mission)
