Resizing spells is ok for the starter spells, but the higher ones needs to be reworked.

Ancient magic looks so sad and puny.

    -----------

Ok resizing magic effects can kinda work, but what about WSs? I sure as hell don't wanna see a bigger glow for Spinstroke, it'll still be the same lack luster spin slash that I'm already sick of.

Hell I'll settle for half-assing it like FFXI and just sticking 2-4 regular slashes with a sparkly glow and calling it a new WS right about now...

You people expect a patch with all that?? Because If not, I don't understand why everytime SE do some minor changes on anything, threads are opened to tell how stupid dev team is, and how they are wasting they time. Dunno, dev team is working hard, they are doing things, changing and working on major changes needed, and in the meantime they take some little time to do a minor improvements.

You may be grateful, instead of attacking every little change they do.
You shouldn't presume to know what everyone is expecting, especially when you're so completely off-base.

In fact, I think most people here have sorely adjusted their expectations of Square Enix to the point where we're expecting them to fail to deliver on their promises.

Praise where praise is due; these half-assed efforts are worth nothing but contempt.

People are crushing their own hopes for XIV cause they set their expectations so high as if major changes is going to happen tomorrow. Then some chime in complaining as if the new dev team has been in for the full time...

I know most just ignore the simple truth that you can go do something else. That option is always available though.

I see why JP games stay in their country for about a year before released to others.

People are just annoyed because it has been so long since the last substantial update. Not that there's no good reason for the delay, but if you thought people wouldn't go back to bitching few weeks after the disaster... you don't know enough about the humanity.

It really has not much to do with this change, they are just using it as their target to rant. It would be beneficial for them to get the company info out asap, regardless of it's current progress.

Honestly I'm going to wait until the patch is out before passing judgement.

Either way, for me, the real issue with battle animations is the way they abruptly cut off when you use skills in a quick succession. No matter how good animations are, it won't matter if they're getting cut off.

It's not something I'm expecting to change anytime soon (or ever), but hopefully things will be done to fix the problem.

    EDIT:

In case what I was talking about isn't clear:

    Look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wdkMBIwDCI

At 00:31~, third eye, meditate, and penta thrust are used. The effects stay until they're done, while the character model transitions to the animation for the next attack.

I haven't found a good video example for FFXIV, but that simply doesn't happen in this game.

Using Raging Strike and Ferocy the same way (in quick succession) will cut off the graphical effect created by Raging Strike in a very ugly and abrupt way. The effect just dissapears as Ferocity is used.

Ask yourself this: does it really matter if casting Aero IV brings forth hurricanes and tornados, if they're going to awkwardly dissapear midway because you used Spirit Dart?

    B) Even if the change happened in early December (and by "change" I mean "the formal announcement, and afterwards the total restructural of the development process and the management", something that isn't done in a day even in the best case, a month+ sounds far more likely), from early December to early April is 4 months. From early November to late April would be 6 months. You think that 30th of November is "one month" and April 6th is "one month". Hilarious.

So, 4 months at best, 3 months at worst (the change in development did not happen overnight). Plus the two weeks delay due to the disaster.

    Excellent thought process there, champ.
Excuse me for making a small mathematical error there "Champ" the Notice came down on 12/9 announcing the new team. Either way that makes it almost 5 months to the day. Still in 5 months best we get is some re-size come on man that's not a good use of time, all they would have done in that time is change an equation or integer yeah I can do that as well, change a 1 to a 2. As far as the disaster goes for all we know development did not totally stop as Tokyo only got rolling blackouts which is where SE is. Yoshis letter only stated things would be pushed back due tot he disaster, not that development stopped.

Don't get me wrong because I can understand why the tension is high. Not getting something of substance for a month sucks. Even though their reasons for delay is understandable having that push every month helped. The patches weren't amazing but it still gave hope of going in the right direction. People just need to chill though. After the disasters hit Japan I already figured XIV was going to get hit hard in a way.

edit: I like the resizing since the effects from the weapon was more noticeable than the effects from the magic.

Resizing clearly means they're paying attention to the fact animations need a change and there will no doubt be more done than resizing of the particle effects (a lot of magic in general is just "small") -- it's like them saying they'll add new areas and people expect them to not add NPCs or music simply because they didn't mention it.

However, a lot of FFXIV's effects are more on the "real" side because of mocap they did for animations, whereas FFXI's focus on the particle effects because the animations themselves were very plain.
