I'm sorry, but if you think that the FFXI community was somehow universally friendlier or more polite than other MMO communities, you're kidding yourself.Because most of us derived from the super friendly FFXI (We were a tight-knit group of people, and being forced into parties did wonders and made very close friendships) ...Unlike most mmos nowadays where everything is soloable and no one helps anyone anymore or trolls them to quitting..
*coughWOW/TERA/SWTORcough*
This. Anonymity + MMO + the type of people who play MMO + message board = chaos. Any large message board for a mmo attracts all sorts of arguments and flame-bait.
In-game there isn't too much bullshit though. I try to help people who need it. We were all noobs once. Of course the number of idiotic shouts will exponentially increase after 2.0.
I've played 5 different MMOs, and FFXI's community is, to this day, the friendliest and more helpful I've played with.
The only friendly people in WoW were my guild mates everyone else simply only grouped up with me to get through a dungeon or something, then never talked to me again.
SWOTR I dont even think I existed to other players in that game.
Rift; another one where I was invisible.
Then FFXI and FFXIV where I can joke around with random people and not get my head bitten off.

for me this is the best community in any mmorpg i have played, i played a lot of them, but never ffxi. so for now ffxiv community is the best, on my server everyone is willing to help me and i made a lot of friends there. in my opinion people that i met and who love ff are the most frendliest ones out there, of course my closest friends in rl are call of duty scyrim type of gamers, but every time i stumble upon someone who loves ff he is always an interesting person...
After reading that thread...I don't think you personally were being called a whore. I think that person was talking about themselves ("achievement whore" referring to someone who craves achievements like a whore craves sex). They obviously weren't good with the speakings of Englishers, though.Short silly little thread where I was both called a whore and told my thread was useless in less than 1 hour.

One thing I've always wondered is why it is, in general, so quiet in towns? Aside from /sh for doing things, there is no /say talk.
I find it pleasant since i'm not bombarded with information I don't care about, but to others, it makes the game feel... dead.
