There doesn't seem to be any technical reason why its not a good idea, people just don't like the extra work and are lazy I guess. My take is that gear swaps in general are so buggy and slow it would be practically pointless to macro them for certain WS/spells as you did in FFXI. The current game engine is just so laggy, poorly designed.
The more annoying restriction, to me, is not being able to change your class (at all) when you're under attack. Previously when I was MIN/BTN I could quick switch to DoW if I was being attacked. Now I just get beat on until I run away or die. I really miss that one.
Originally FFXIV allowed gear change in active mode right? I can't remember, so many changes since launch its a blur.
nah we were never allowed to change clothes while active modejust passive. Also Zehira we can't cast magic and kill monsters in RL, so changing clothes super fast shouldn't be effected because we can't do it in RL >< its a FF MMORPG ><
Yeah, you can magically change your clothes while active mode because it's a Final FANTASY game. hehe

It's not lazy to not like having to carry around 100 different armor sets and spend battles constantly hitting armor changing macros. It's annoying, and certainly adds no fun for most people. I'd rather have more engaging systems than play to an OCD min-maxer's wet dream.
Gear swaps would do more to hurt the game than help it, but we've been over that on these forums a million times already.
While I am totally against gear swaps in combat we kind of already have them. Most EG BRD's I know have a macro to disengage, equip their AF, cast a song, reequip their 2x/3x melded gear, then reengage, takes 8~10 seconds. Only person that can't really gear swap is the tank and your tank should have their gear set before engaging anyway. Just no crap like XI, I needed 8 staffs and extra gear just to cast certain spells, that was a joke.

What people did in FFXI was use windower and spellcast to automate the process of gearswaps and people who didn't use it were at a pretty big disadvantage. One reason why I hope they never have gear swaps.
Not this topic again... :L
Situational swaps like needing more m.acc for one boss, or needing more atk for another I don't mind, but please . . . No more 70 inventory spaces used on just one job.
I did it in XI because I had to, if you didn't have those gearsets you'd under-perform. SMN was a bloody nightmare having to carry around diff. sets for day of the week, avatar atk/matk gear, perp- gear etc etc, not to mention staves for each one too.
I don't want that kind of thing in XIV, it's not fun at all ><
Act in such a way that you treat humanity, whether in your own person or in the person of another, always at the same time as an end and never simply as a means
