How do Lalafells hear?

I do not understand this.
Lalafells ears are covered when they wear most hats, with cloth or leather. How do sounds reach their ears? Do Lalafells hear via something else?

It was the same thing with Tarutarus in FFXI, I never understood this.
Does anyone know?

Even though this is true, it just seems like a bad idea in general to muffle the sounds. Why not cut out holes?

Because armor should be protecting you, not leaving your ears open to be cut off. Our ears are long, so it's easy to cut them off. And a lala looks weird without ears.

We plainsfolk hear with our left eyebrow. Thats why we hear u differently depending if u speak to us from left side or from right side
