Huh...I'll try that when I get home. I reinstalled my operating system and while my controller is plugged in, it wasn't working the last time I tried to use it. I guessed that I had missed backing up wherever the controller settings were, but I never would've though that it would be the cause of this issue.

Wow...I had this exact same problem awhile ago. I never thought this would be the cause of it.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the entire game, and that cleared it up. Geez...what if my problem was the controller all along?

The engine may not be properly optimized to take advantage of SLI/680/690s. Just got my 690 last night, tried maxing everything, and it played like crap. Running at 2560x1600. If I disable AO and max AA it runs very nicely (have AA disabled in FFXIVConfig, and just using FXAA in Nvidia's CP). Both GPUS are under load as well.

    System specs:
    Intel I7 3820
    Asus Rampage IV Extreme
    16GB Ram
Game is installed onto a Sata3 SSD
    Dell Ultrasharp U3011

I play at standard settings with two GTX580s. At times I can hear the fans on the cards start screaming while running XIV (mostly during cutscenes). I think Sath has the right of it by saying the game does not take full advantage of SLI.

However, I do notice that having the Nvidia settings override the game settings for stuff like AA and AO, it does make things run a lot smoother, and the cards complain about the heat less.

Never did think about doing the NVCP settings for AO. May have to give that a shot.

I tried disabling one GPU on my 690 and ran around a bit in my mog house, and it ran at about 45FPS (MSI Afterburner) Re-enabled multi-GPU, and it was at 60. AO disabled but enabled in nvidia CP.

    GPUs cap at around 73c.

running driver version 301.42 vsync on in nvidia CP as well.

was having a frustrating evening today .. so sorry to the full party just now (Marsha Mallow, Mussa Gray, Ayu Marimo, Madison Sublime, Thalim Ahongle and etc .. which we wait for a full party, shouting around for quite some times)

eventually when we have the full party we travel to the grinding or level spot .. and poof~ screen turn black and FFxiv was stop functioning itself due to UNKNOWN DIRECT X problem ..

Oh my god i was so sorry to the party as im seeking solution from SE and internet as well, im getting a newest version of direct x from microsoft also .. hope this kind of problem doesnt repeat, its alright when you are solo-ing and doing leves by your own and shutting down issues doesnt bring trouble to others but annoying to self, however when this kind of issues happen when we are in a party or doing something together, it might cause lots of misunderstanding and problem ..

PS* i did not Tab+ Alt , and im playing in full screen

guess im having the same issues as yours, where my bf is playing BF3 without any problems in the computer but when im playing FFXIV its keep on crashing

try running the game in windowed mode, and see if that still happens.

I know sometimes windows 7 like to do something, that causes fullscreen things to lose focus. This happened on my laptop that was being used as an HTPC, and it was very annoying when movies would go back to windowed.

Nvidia was finally able to reproduce it, no fix is coming however:

I guess people just need to deal with it and wait for 2.0 engine.

I just upgraded from two GTX580s to a GTX670 last weekend. This solved a lot of the problems I've been having, but I still get this crash randomly when running around cities.

Interesting to note that switching to 30fps mode in the general settings makes the crashes a lot less frequent.

I also want to mention that I also installed a new SSD in my computer at the same time as the graphics card, so this is not only a fresh install of FFXIV, but a fresh load of Windows 7 as well.
