Just started back up after a break from the game. Have 301.42 Installed with Silver Lights HW Acceleration off with DoF and AO on. I am getting a strange studdering though, it is still smooth in a way, hard to explain, and I have tried both 60FPS and 30FPS. I never drop below 30 FPS. Also have prefer Maximum Performance set for the game in the Nvidia Control Panel.

    GTX680 SLI @ 2560x1440

Edit-Not a fan of Dev Drivers, but I think I'm going to give them a shot, if the game would smooth out I would be happy.

Thanks a lot! Now the game is running like a charm w/ AO off, DoF off, Silverlight HWA off !

While it was crashing after around 5 minutes in Ul'Dah area, now I've been playing for more than an hour without any trouble.

Vili i have the GTX690 and when i run the game on one single GPU i get more FPS then the dual GPU turned on.
maybe best you try it also with only 1 card(GPU) active.

Just tried that, Disabled SLI, SLI with Single GPU and both Alternate Frame Renderings in the FFXIV Profile with the Nvidia Control Panel. I get less than 30FPS whenever I get near a group of mobs, NPC's, or players. Even tree's will cause my FPS to go lower, I'm talking like low 20's. I also removed my GPU Overclock although I know it to be stable in other demanding games like BF3 and Metro 2033.
What is your Screen Resolution? With mine being bigger than 1920x1080 I need more than one GPU if I am going to max everything out minus General Drawing Quality. That I have to leave set to 8. However, if I Disable AO and set that to 9 I am fine with smooth game play never going below 30FPS.
I do have DoF Enabled, and I have yet to crash, would love to test AO, see if they fixed the issue and didn't say so in the release notes for the latest WHQL, but the game does not run that smooth.
Think the drivers just need some more maturing, this after all only the second WHQL for the 600 Series.

If it is installed it should be in the Start Menu of Programs.
Open it up and go to the playback tab. Under Hardware acceleration uncheck [Enable hardware-acceleration playback]
    Then click OK. That's it.

Just got my new GTX 680, watercooled, running Furmark perfectly for over an hour and crashing in FFXV like hell, anywhere between 5 minutes and 30 minutes until a crash happens. Sometimes while zoning, sometimes randomly while fighting.

I am so incredibly pleased. I am trying all your tips and hints but has anyone actually found a spot-on solution?

    Thank you

No. Waiting till 2.0 engine hits. Using 301.42 drivers and AO and DoF off. Rest maxed. No problems with directx so far. Crashes are very rare.

DoF and AO are unrelated. You can enable DoF without AO. Which is exactly what I suggest. Disable AO but leave DoF enabled.

Either one gives the directx error at some point.
