Hey, here's a thought: DON'T DIE if you want your bonus to last. Problem solved.

Would you like an Ifrit weapon for every 5 losses too? If it was too easy, people would complain about that too. I think challenging aspects to a game make it stronger.

Devs, there are some people out there who 1) trust you and 2) will try things out for a couple of weeks before we judge them. Stay strong!

My suggestion is make sanction last 3 hours and persist through death but make it only 3 hours and have a 24 hour cooldown real time before you can get again. Also make it were to renew sanction on item cost 1000 seals.

I actually like the death penalty, I think the weapons are too op for them to be purchased so easily with seals. the death penalty is a nice compromise.

Want consistency? Don't die or don't get signet. Better playing styles should be rewarded in some way. I guess if you die a lot that counts as consistency, don't even need signet. But a signet that lasts for an extremely long period of time, with little benefit, and no risk of losing is just pointless. May as well just mix the bonus in with sleep buff or something. Let SE give the thing some purpose.

Keep in mind that this game cannot be calibrated for any single player, and the medium is not you.

It's good to hear that they are aware of the limitations of sanction and are thinking of alternatives. I like the ideas that the devs have mentioned because they allow for opportunities to increase the playability of the sanctioned items (which really aren't very good without sanction).

Thanks for the replies Bayohne and Camate!

I'd like to give some background on the current spec of "losing sanction upon death." The bonus added with sanction was designed to be very potent. In order to balance this, the concept of sanction is to limit the effect duration to three hours and to take a risk that it will be removed if you’re defeated. With that said, we do not currently have any plans to make adjustments so that the effects of sanction remain active when you die.

However, we are currently looking into making it so sanction can be received in places other than your respective Grand Company when certain conditions are met, or implementing an item that will give you sanction via exchange of Grand Company seals.

    Please keep the feedback coming!
Honestly I think you should just add npcs that give sanction buff in exchange for seals outside of headquarters. The buffs are great, but they should definitely be more accessible somehow, because without them the weapons are borderline useless. Only some of the gear has decent stats without their buff. Adding seal items isn't a bad idea either, but I think that makes buffs *too accessible*. Someone could seal farm for a weekend and have constant sanction buff going on pretty much whenever they needed it. Devs should still keep it slightly inconvenient so that death is really problematic.

That said, Im thinking more along that first thing you said, about receiving sanction in other locations. I just think exchanging seals would probably be the best and simplest condition...plus it would force ppl to teleport or /return in order to refresh a buff if they died. It keeps the balance but makes them slightly more accessible. Adding an item makes them too accessible imo.

I can see seals being a nice compromise with these.
Those with anima can get a free refresh at HQ, while keeping a backup weapon for fights like Ifrit.
Those with seals can use a magical decoder ring or something.

Also some of these weapons are stronger than they appear.
Storm/Serpent/Flame Sergent's Bow? .97 less DPS than a Garuda Bow.
All 3, tied for 2nd fastest bow in the game currently.
And last I checked over half an Archer/Bards damage comes from their Light Shots.
Sure Ifrit's bow beats it in pure damage output, but over time the higher dps bows would catch up.

There has been a bit of progress on the aforementioned sanction adjustments that I would like to update you all on.

Currently it is only possible to receive sanction from the Grand Company counter you are a part of, but in patch 1.22b we will be making it possible to receive the effects of sanction from the other Grand Company counters that you do not belong to after completing a special quest.

We are still continuing to look into items that will imbue you with the effects of sanction and will be sure to let you know of any updates on that front as well.

I think we were trying to get away from DEATH=TOWN for sanction though.
