Wanted to start this thread to hear people's thoughts on sanction-ready gear. Most of the gear seems fairly average without the sanction bonus applied, but once you have a sanction, the gear really powers up. I love the approach to this design and think it's really refreshing.

The one aspect that did surprise me, however, was that the sanction wears off upon death. Especially since it was not mentioned anywhere in the patch notes:

“Sanction" is the name given to a process of gear enhancement which involves the casting of any one of a range of enhancing spells on equipment specially crafted to harbor enchantments. The sanction status can be received at the headquarters of each Grand Company, and for the duration of its effect (three hours Earth time) grants a bonus to the efficacy of certain gear. Such gear can be identified by viewing their help text.

After spending 17,000 GC seals to get this gear (three promotions and the item itself) such a fragile bonus hardly seems worth it? Unless, of course, you're in an LS where you never die, ever, the use of this gear now seems severely limiting. Perhaps they were meant to be "too good to be true".

Any thoughts? I'd love to even hear the dev rationale for why it was designed this way. It just seems like such a waste after so many seals.
with sanction up they are pretty op, so i dont mind the death penalty. its a fair trade off to be able to purchase a weapon of that power with little effort.

i cant remember all the stats of every weapon, but some are still good without sanction.

Id like to see usable items to apply sanction for seal purchase for emergency's though, 50 seals maybe each. Or have them quested.

    Hey gang,

I'd like to give some background on the current spec of "losing sanction upon death." The bonus added with sanction was designed to be very potent. In order to balance this, the concept of sanction is to limit the effect duration to three hours and to take a risk that it will be removed if you’re defeated. With that said, we do not currently have any plans to make adjustments so that the effects of sanction remain active when you die.

However, we are currently looking into making it so sanction can be received in places other than your respective Grand Company when certain conditions are met, or implementing an item that will give you sanction via exchange of Grand Company seals.

    Please keep the feedback coming!

Honestly I think you should just add npcs that give sanction buff in exchange for seals outside of headquarters. The buffs are great, but they should definitely be more accessible somehow, because without them the weapons are borderline useless. Only some of the gear has decent stats without their buff. Adding seal items isn't a bad idea either, but I think that makes buffs *too accessible*. Someone could seal farm for a weekend and have constant sanction buff going on pretty much whenever they needed it. Devs should still keep it slightly inconvenient so that death is really problematic.

That said, Im thinking more along that first thing you said, about receiving sanction in other locations. I just think exchanging seals would probably be the best and simplest condition...plus it would force ppl to teleport or /return in order to refresh a buff if they died. It keeps the balance but makes them slightly more accessible. Adding an item makes them too accessible imo.

See above edits, thanks for the catch syntaxlies! Camate has been received -5 points today for this transgression.

In the above example, let's say if you just purchased a new "Sanction:" item, perhaps equipping it for the first time would give you the effect of sanction for free. These are the kinds of ideas that the dev. team are currently discussing.

well since sanction is already free i dont think its a big deal to walk the 10 yalms to the npc and get sanctioned

if those are the kinds of ideas they are getting they really have to try harder, lol.

The development team is looking into implementing an item that will give you sanction via exchange of Grand Company seals.
