Ummm... completely redesigned zones and a completely redesigned world? There is no character reset. You keep your gil, items and levels. The only thing that may reset are any quests you are currently on, since many of them are being adjusted for 2.0.
The class and job system is remaining as is. There may be adjustments to jobs, but the actual system is not changing.
You have to keep in mind that 2.0 is NOT an actual, new game. It's a glorified patch that's acting as a cornerstone for XIV's re-release. Besides adjusted storylines, new graphics engines, new server structures, dungeon redesigns and a few other additions such as new races and a character redesign, there isn't anything changing as far as normal gameplay from what we have right now.
His comment isn't wrong though. They are redesigning the world. But fundamental gameplay isn't going to change very much, if at all. Which is the main point he was trying to make. They will be adding a bit of flare (such as targeting body parts and inter-character combos [reintroducing Battle Regime]) but the basic mechanics are going to be pretty much what we have now.
WoW did the same thing, yet people don't consider that a new game. 2.0 is more like an expansion pack, rather than a patch. Too big for that, but too small to be a new game. For those playing, at least.
it like a new game because we are getting a new client for the game but at the end it's just a big update moving us from old to new client.
