    If I'm not mistaken, our current Eorzean map is not home to the origin city of any of the races, except for the Elezen. It's hard to get a sense or feel for the culture if we can't visit the home cities. All of the races do have their own lore though, problem is hardly anyone pays attention to it. Hell it's in the manual or on the main site, the most basic and early resources we got gave us some decent base lore.

    True they didn't release the opposite genders for Miqo'te and Roegadyn at launch but there was lore stating that they have existed since launch. If I'm not mistaken, Galka have never been stated to have ever had female counterparts. Roegadyn have always had them though.

    In all honesty. I would have been happier with this. They will never, ever, ever separate FFXI from FFXIV because of the Race choice. No matter how hard they may try the players, at least the old guard, will wonder why things are not more like this or that as they were in FFXI. Hell, the only reason I even started and kept with FFXIV after the launch fiasco is because of the Races. I had hope they would finally come to their senses and make FFXI-2 as they should have done in the first place. Had they used a different set of Races, such as the FFT variants, I wouldn't be nearly as disappointing in this game as I am now.

    I feel as if they lied to me. A bait and switch to rope in their FFXI players and offering nothing of what they liked.

    This is what PLers actually believe. May Altana have mercy on our souls...

    Very true. Despite Ul'dah being one of the three *home* nations, it may as well be the equivalent of Jeuno or Whitegate. People hang out there for convenience, not because they actually feel attached to it.

    I like the races in FFXIV. That's all that matters.

    Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend. He was so deadly, in fact, that his enemies would go blind from over-exposure to pure awesomeness!

    Plenty of people I knew quit FFXI when FFXIV was announced, because they saw it as a death sentence for FFXI.

    This is pretty much all that needs to be said as far as the races go. Not to mention on the technical/animation side having races with similar body structure makes animating stuff much easier.
    The original dev team obviously had letting go issues, they wanted a brand new world that still felt 'familiar' to players of XI so they transferred the old races with small changes and new names and lore to give things a new spin. Not really sure why they thought this would be preferable to a brand new fresh world with brand new races ( I would have loved to see that... ) but that's not what they decided to do.
    It was a business decision. They banked on XI's players moving from XI to XIV. That didn't pan out very well for numerous reasons. The reverse of what Sony wanted to do with EQII (attract new players but got a good chunk of the people who played EQ instead).

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
    * Design ideas:
