    No they really don't. Maybe for solo-farming primal entry items, or soloing leves for those "Sword of Eorzea" achievements, or staying alive while exploring the map for the exploration achievement (though for that last one I think Fists of Wind on Monk would be better).

    So basically, for anything actually important, they're not. And I'm personally perfectly okay with this. If someone doesn't like being that specialized, level another job, that's what this game is based on.

    I do not think that that is the dynamics of Classes and Jobs, actually? I see it as Classes are 'weaker but all-ranging/generalist' and Jobs as 'stronger and highly specialized'. At least that is what the devteam seems to be aiming at.

    This is exactly how it is. Personally I think it limits more than it helps, I'd rather see a "Generalist" job like Redmage or Beastmaster to come out of the fray with their own unique skills and abillities than I would see a crapload of "Generalist" classes that all do the same thing allbeit slightly better/worse.

    Think about it, GLA gets abilities that are very "Paladin"-ish: Aegis Boon, Flash, Sentinel, Rampart, etc. They lend themselves into the theme of Paladin very well.

    Whatever Dark Knight's class will be, it will follow the trend of sticking to the theme of it's job. It will have skills like Absorb x(stat), Stygian Spikes (remember that?), Debuffs, and of course weapon skills that have names that sound dark and devastating.

    Do you really think it'll be called "Knight?" That's already the JP name for Paladin, and regardless, Knight conjures up images of gallant chivalry, kinda goes against the Dark Knight thing. I think it'll be called something more like "Ravager."

    haven't read all the posts so sorry if im just repeating, but if drk was still a tanking class the idea of it replacing pld as the players choice doesn't sound that bad. Im thinking let there be a repeatable quest to let the player return to the light or fall into darkness etc. It would be fun to have drk be a "health" siphon style tank and have pld be a "self heal or party heal" tank type, even have like a health sacrifice style spell for the drk that he can heal himself from taking allies health.

    Forgot Warrior :P but still believe there's a way to make things of this sort work out in a fashion that adds to the game-play even if it feels like a restriction.

    That's interesting, but Dark Knights have always been a DD, and I don't think that many people would be happy with Dark Knights becoming another tank, I certainly would be put off by it. What you described was more like a "Dark Paladin" (dark theme, black magic, tank), kinda like how "Holy Knights" (Holy theme, holy magic, Damage dealer) is =/= to the opposite of Dark Knight.

    As a side note, Dark Paladin types are ridiculous to balance, and tend to shine against weaker enemies while not being effective against the big enemies.
