You could always deviate from the current model and make the new classes (MSK, Etc.) something along the lines of "master" classes that require 2-3 rank 50 classes in order to unlock. They have their own weapons, new moves, and can pull abilities from their required sub classes. To make them unique thought, they should have more than 5 new abilities like the current classes have.
But really all of this discussion is pointless because SE will do what they want. Hell, when 2.0 hits, all of the jobs/classes may be seperate and have new unique and specific abilities and gear. We shall see.
I'd prefer to have them all from seperate new classes rather than the preexisting ones - I really don't like the idea of Gladiator having to choose between Dark Knight and Paladin. That kinda sucks...
If the Dark Knight were going to be introduced, then it would be better to have it as an evolution of something like an actual Knight class, with THM as the subjob.
If they were going to go with Thief, then they should have that as the basic class and have the Job be Ninja like it was in Final Fantasy I - the Thief could be a debuffer/DPS hybrid and the Ninja could be bulk DPS and stealth.
Musketeer really does sound very, very cool, though. For its Job it could have a Highwayman or a Gunner advancement - I'd imagine these as Debuffers which use their guns with specialised ammo to inflict Status Effects, like Guns did in Final Fantasy XII.
I don't know what to make of Arcanist, but I do like the idea of it as the pet class which would evolve into the Summoner Job. Ifrit and Garuda, and maybe even other FF Summons like Shiva and Bahamut on my side? Yes please!
The other classes I'd like to see would be Red Mage and Samurai. No idea what these guys would do, but I always liked their designs in the older FF games! Maybe if they introduce mounted combat there could be a dedicated mounted combat class, too - for lack of imagination, maybe a Chocobo Knight or something.

Dont get your hopes up Summoner will never see the Primals as their pets.I'd prefer to have them all from seperate new classes rather than the preexisting ones - I really don't like the idea of Gladiator having to choose between Dark Knight and Paladin. That kinda sucks...

Sorry I did not read through all of the posts, but I feel they could make this really awesome!
First off don't make two completely different jobs on one class... That is just lame... That isn't to say you should just stop creating things for a job. I agree with some of the things being said earlier in the thread, make it like FFT. Loved how jobs worked in those games, tier wise, advancing from one lesser job to a better one with the same kind of skill set.
This being said I think they should do something like:
Gladiator-Paladin-Templar
Knight-Dark Knight-Death Knight
Conjurer-White Mage-Oracle
Thaumaturge-Black Mage-Sage
Many, many others!
Having this kind of system with advantages and disadvantages of every tier would make for a very diverse game imo. And maybe eventually add some other job branch offs, but that would be way later and would need to be thought on quite a lot.
Also I agree that you should keep making classes! Don't worry about Jobs for right now until you get some other classes into the game. Give us a de-buff class, a melee caster, a pet class(both beast and summon), an all around kind of class(healing, dd), and from these you can make jobs that resemble the old Final Fantasy jobs we know and love!
Personally I want to have more diverse weapons/classes as well, like Scythe, Great Sword, Katana/duel wield, One handed Axes/duel wield, Cross bows, etc.
I just want Blue Mage, to be honest.
Thief/Ninja................. at some point /cry
Or...I could continue to state that I think the system is terribly flawed and what I want from the system can't be done.
I want the jobs to be unique and dynamic and not just "For party play" and classes be "For solo play". It just limits the developers into corridor thinking instead of being able to be unique and dynamic for each job/class they have to slap blinders on and make sure the Classes support their job and the jobs work with the limited abillities and weaponry available.
I honestly don't mind the system as it is now, but I want there to be a reason to stay as a certain class over the advanced version. Also, I'd like the unlocked class to start at level 1.
I mean, a legit question, but why choose to stay as a Lancer when you can become a Dragoon? Does Lancer do better than Dragoon in some ways? Or GLD over PLD? MRD over WAR?
