The Reason Why FFXIV Is No Longer Fun/Exciting

I'm so bored the only thing I've been doing is achievement hunting. That's all that's left to me since the story has gone down the drain, and I'm tired of looking at the same 4/5/6 faces per race for 10+ years.

Yeah I've also been burned out. I don't know if this patch is going to save me, but I hope it does. The V&C content should keep me entertained for a week or two.

I really think, and I may be criticised for this, that the number of people doing the side-content is determined by the amount of enjoyment they get out of the msq. The more you enjoy the story, the more inclined you will be to do the side-content.

I've definitely found this. I love to 'ace' the expansions. I usually do everything, level every class, do all of the side content, crafting etc.

I haven't touched anything in dawntrail since I finished the 7.0 MSQ. I had to force myself to finish it, which has never happened before. I think I tried to do one side quest after and it mentioned Wuk Lamat, and I was just done.

Its been quite helpful for me really. I've been addicted to maxing everything out that I can, but I've been freed from that because I have no interest in stepping into Tural ever again.

It's also stopped my preordering of expansions. I've been enjoying going through one last time from ARR to Endwalker, but I'll be waiting for the reviews of 8.0 MSQ before I buy it. If it's good I'll hopefully jump back in, skip Dawntrail and pretend it never existed. If the story quality is still as poor then I guess that's me out for good.

Am just playing this game because of two things;

- My friend with whom I spent so much time and that's the biggest reason I don't quit.
- Having fight club.

I actually started to do a free trial character last month, in preparation for where I can inevitably no longer justify bothering to stay subscribed...

That being said, it's bizarre, as I've actually been enjoying the experience (Probably more than I have the actual game since early ShB), even if reminiscing plays a huge factor. I've also not really found myself missing any of the new content at all... I would probably be playing it over my main character in 7.4, were it not for the fact a group of friends want to do the story and try the raids.

I just simply don't feel a sense of missing out or caring and it's great.

I wonder if they'll make Shadowbringers free in the next expansion? That's arguably the best expansion (next to Endwalker imo)

It's definitely partly that but it actually feels like a journey because there are hurdles... Like years later ARR crafting gearing still excites me at level 50, as it isn't just as simple as grind scrips... I'm being pushed to do Desynthesis, Grand Companies, and Ixali, like it's actually asking me to engage with different parts of the game if I want to accomplish something. I dearly miss that, and it's honestly going to be pretty consistent just because of the limitations.

I think historically they have usually updated the free trial around .5 patch time, so it will actually be updated before the expansion launch... Like, Stormblood was free with 6.5 so Shadowbringers should be free with 7.5 -- I think at this point is when I will actually have to ask myself if I'm going to bother with a subscription for a really long time... If it comes with Ishgard Restoration then I am going to have to ask myself some pretty serious questions lol... Since that is around 300-450 hours of content

Good for you Kaurhz! I had a blast when I was on free trial too, having to do everything yourself without MB, trading or gifts from friends really gets you to go out of your way. I did it back when it was only up to HW so if they add ShB you'll have tons to do! Enjoy yourself!

What is it that you're enjoying in the game right now?

I just do whatever I'm feeling, whether it's roulettes, specific duties, flying around taking in the sights or scouting for a cool gpose spot, even doing the occasional FATE or gold saucer minigame. Enjoying an immersive retread of the MSQ on my WoL alt. Hanging out at my house while I wait for duty to pop or semi-afk, maybe a little bit of RP on occasion, and of course glamour is always a fun thing.
Sorry if I'm not making much sense, honestly just doing random stuff without any sort of real focus or pressure to do any of it, sorta like back in my early days as a sprout.
